Club Twinning - Does your club have a Twin?

Some years ago Lichfield Archers had an informal arangement with a club in South Africa which was suspended when the GlenEagles agreement came about.

I have been tasked by our committee to look into Twinning the club again

Easiest place to start is to ask everyone - Does anyone/club out there in AIUK land have any connections with another club, be they internationally or Uk based?

I'm looking for more than just a good natured rivallry - more like the Twining that goes on amongst Towns.

And if so ... how far does it go....sponsorships ... exchange visits...Trophy and badge swaps etc etc ?

Many years ago, 1988 I think, Cheltenham Archers and Black & Gold Archers (both based in Cheltenham) sent 6 archers to our twin town of Annecy in France. It was a great experience. Taken out for meals, shown the local area. There was some big tournament on which we were invited to take part in, I forget what it was but the vp of FITA was on my table at the meal the night before the tournament. They had TV Cameras at the tournament so it must have been important. I know someone said there were teams/archers from France, Germany & Italy and it included international archers. Probably explains why we only managed to beat the local junior team.

The team from Annecy came over to Cheltenham and took part in a local tournament, and I think everything went very well.

Not sure why, but I dont think this happened again. I know it was talked about but nothing got off the ground.

Hi,

Our town, Basingstoke, is twinned with Alencon in France. We have taken part in an official town-twiining annual sports exchange week-end for more than ten years. Although the "official" town twinning exchange seems to have fallen by the way, the links formed between our two clubs remain strong. We always have a great social programme with an archery contest squeezed into the week-end somewhere.

If Lichfield Archers want to set up something with an overseas club, I would suggest starting with the town twinning association and see if they have a sports exchange.

Robin

I really like the idea of twinning clubs either on a UK or international basis. I think it could be good fun.

I don't know how many clubs currently do it, but I'd like to know if there would be any interest from other clubs in getting something like this off the ground.

Twinning

I have to say we at Tavistock co of archers are twinned with Pontivy in France. This year we celebrated 10 years when we went over to them. We have made lots of friends and had many good times. I set this up in 1998 and its one of the best things i have organised yet. If anyone wants any advise then just mail me and i will get you started.

Royal Richmond AC is twinned with Sportverein Litzelstetten (SVL) near Konstanz. Have a look at last year's exchange.
