Best Archery Club in Britain 2007!

EUAC - National and BUSA, Indoor and Outdoor Champions.

Seeing as it is almost the end of the year I thought I would celebrate what a great year Edinburgh University Archery Club have had. Some the main successes have been:

National Indoor Championships
1st Recurve Team,
1st ladies Recurve Qualifier (2nd in Head to Heads).

British Outdoor Target Championships
1st Recurve Team,
2nd Ladies Recurve

BUSA Indoors
1st Senior Team.
1st Ladies Recurve,
2nd Senior Ladies Compound (a novice),
3rd Ladies Compound,
2nd Gents compound,
4th Gents Recurve.
1st Novice Team
Broke Senior Team Record for second year in row. 2007 is EUAC's 11th Indoor win, increasing the lead as the club that has won BUSA Indoors more than any other.

BUSA Outdoors
1st Senior Team.
1st Ladies Recurve,
2nd ladies Recurve,
3rd Gents Recurve.
1st Novice Team,
1st Novice Ladies Recurve,
2nd Novice Ladies Recurve,
1st Novice Gents Recurve,
1st Novice Ladies Compound.
EUAC have won BUSA outdoors 11 out of the last 12 years (last year came 2nd due to top archers representing GB Universities in Slovakia).

Internationals
2 members represented their countries at Dover World Cup (GBR and SWE) and then shot against each other in the mixed international team event bronze medal match.
Several have represented Scotland.
4 members selected for 2007/2008 Scottish Squad.
1 member represented GBR at Antalya World Cup Match.

New Developments
Secured new outdoor shelter scheduled to be built in March 2008
Secured the replacement of current range with one 40m and one 30m range - opening January 2010.

That's a very impressive list. Just wondering if Best Archery Club in Britain 2007 is an actual award or if that's just your opinion (not being cheeky, I'm actually wondering if there is something like this)?

I'll certainly give you best club colours!!

Having a permanent range must help a awful lot towards being so successful. I recently looked into restarting the archery club at Newcastle University (am a member of staf there). The biggest sticking point, apart from attracting students, has been finding a place and time to shoot. The athletic union could only offer us one hour a week sharing the sports hall (curtain down the middle). It is still in the very early stages of planning, but i would love to know how you got the facilities you have?

P.A.

When BUSA was hosted at Newcastle I seem to recall it was shot in the Union Bar... I know that there was a bar behind me when I was shooting (six to a boss as well).

must have been a while ago, Newcastle uni hasnt had a team since about 2005 ish. Northumbria uni (across the road) has a team. We can only look on in envy at the richly deserved success of our northern neighbour!!!

that was not at newcastle university but at Northumbria university in the union! not the sports union but the union!

The range at edinburgh is constantly sited as the reason for its success, and although it is usefull it is only a part of the package. Also not wholly convinced by some of the representation stuff in dennis's post

Didn't mean to suggest for a second that the range was the only reason for success. Hours of hard work by many people go into producing any successful club, and they don't come any more successful than yours.

Cheers There isn't an actual award but there isn't much more to win in a year as a club.

Perhaps it's just me, but I'm growing tired of hearing people (all from Edinburgh, mind) spout on about how great EUAC is.

Most of the "achievements" on that list are from BUSA, which only a minor proportion of the clubs in GBR are eligible for.

The success of the club elsewhere is evident - give it a rest.
