tiny steps

well - my ongoing struggle with shooting indoors continues

having FINALLY broken 500 for a portsmouth early this season before slumping straight back to the mid 480s for a couple of months ive improved my PB tonight by all of 2 points to a massive 515 !

Yay. beating any PB by any amount is a cause for celebration (especialy if its a discipine you have a "struggle" with)

I remember that feeling last year and then again this year. I was told to not focus on *500* but some other random number like 501, 512 or 543!

Well done Rob!!

thanks folks

thinking about this more its odd how a year can change your perspective - this time last year (having only been shooting for a couple of months) high 400s i was happy with (but still longing to break the big five-oh-oh) but now this year even these low 500s PBs feel a bit disappointing in a way - tonight shooting the 515 it felt like i wasnt shooting well

but

when i entered the score in my spreadsheet 515 gives me a handicap score of 44 which is exactly on par with my outdoor performance this year

so im shooting as well as i ever have but still feeling a bit flat over my own perception of how im shooting

perhaps i should just be happy im improving slowly ?

or maybe even more pleased that im not satisfied with my current performance even though its as good as it ought to be ?

its a complicated game this innit ?

Oooh! handicap buddies (44).
self perceptions a bugger isnt it. Try to compare yourself to wunderkind newbies or style changers like archerymum or LMP and we are bound to feel a little downhearted, luckily archery is a one on one sport(and even luckier both ones are ones self) so by beating your pb by 2 , you win. Yay!

well

a week on and another (slightly bigger) step - another portsmouth and another PB - 530

still the odd blue in there (which is irritating) but got into a real groove towards the end and finished with a 114 dozen (58 last 1/2 dozen) which gives me hope that even better is possible and also something to live up to next week

That makes 114*5 entirely plausible, but best aim to get there in little steps

well done

it is a tricky old game isn't it... the two hardest things I found is that first week you don't improve your scores because in your head you feel you are always going to improve (though common snese dictates you have to stop at some point even if its 600 - I wish)

and situations like this week when my mate shot his first portsmouth and came within 5 of my PB that I had taken 4 portsmouths to achieve.... he did really well even getting a 3 compound ten end but I couldn't help congratulating him through clenched teeth

good shooting there rob.. you'll be up in the 570+ area in no time if you can manage 114 dozens at the *end* of a shoot
