I think they're both probably much of a muchness. With a Long Metric you have fewer arrows at the longer distance but have to average 8.36 per arrow but with a New National you only have to average 7.69 per arrow but have more at the longer distance.

True, but there are more points available on a Metric face

Mmm, but you have to average ~7 points per end higher. If you assume that half of the 7's will be 8's and half of the 9's will be 10's then you'll only make up 6 points per end. I'll probably go the Metric route anyway as I prefer 10 zone scoring.

Congratulations HH.

My first 1st Class score was also on a FITA 70 last year. I hope you find getting the third one easier than I did!

The rate I was going earlier I would have had a second (was averaging 49 an end) but due to clearance issues I've only got 4 fully fletched arrows left. It'll have to wait until next week.

Shoot a National, then if you are short of a few points you can always shoot another 2 dozen and call it a Western usually you can make up the short fall - that's what some people do

In theory its harder to do on a New Western - you've got to average around 1 point higher per dozen (not a huge difference) than the National. However, my main priority has to be to get my clearance issues sorted out first - then I might be able to finish a round with some fletching left.

Managed to bump my PB up to 588 now - finsihed with a 101, 99, 101, 100 - more than enough to hit the 600 if I could have done it in the previous two dozen.
