| Handicaps & mathematics OK, so now I'm confused! I did my first ever tournament yesterday (Western 8 dozen @ 50yds and 40yds) and came away with a score of 474. Nothing particularly remarkable about that, and there's definitely scope for improvement next time out. A fantastic day's shooting though, a great day's fun, and got a tan too! The thing I was most confused by was that I reduced my handicap by around 8 (down to 61 now I believe), ended up with a total score on the day of 1664 (or somewhere near there I think), and finished second in the adult class for the day! Which was a total shock! Can someone point me in the direction of some handicap charts or somewhere I can view these figures so I can comprehend how these things are worked out please? cheers  | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Andrew GNAS handicap tables are not officially published anywhere electronically as they are copyright (but not by GNAS  ). There used to be an apology about not being able to make the tables available on the site somewhere.Intitial handicap is based on the rounded up average of the first three scores. After that if you shoot to a lower handicap your new handicap is the rounded up average of the new lower handicap and your current handicap. Your year start handicap is the rounded up average of the three lowest handicaps shot in the previous year. In your case what you did on Saturday (the day before the club handicap shoot was shoot a round with a handicap 17 points below your current handicap; 10 out of 10 for shooting but 0 out of 10 for timing  ). This lowered your handicap by 8 points. Your 474 is going to lower your handicp yet again (when I get around to it).

| hey andrew just going to remind you i got a 664 scoring again do you remember what my final score was i know i came second in the juniors but just dont remember my final score. i still should have shot further although i will next time thanks.

| Yeah thanks for that reminder Dan!! Just remember you're still shooting kiddie distances though!  I cant remember your total score, but Joe will have them on the GOA website some time this week (I expect).
