Longbow!!

Just wanted to tell somone. Started using longbow a couple of weeks ago. Shot 313 on Windsor on Sunday. Not a classification but v pleased with myself! Guess I'm easily pleased! I've spent nearly two years taking the mick out of the stick shooters at our club but now - respect!
LMP - have you tried one yet? I'm sure you said you were going to?

Steve

Hi Steve,

Great. I have considered one just to shoot for fun, way different to compound. I reckon the secret is making a very well matched set of arrows. I may just have a look for a bow on ebay. What have you got?

Hi Steve,

I have a lovely 38lb longbow - American white oak & hickory! It shoots lovely - shame the nugget using it isn't so good!!!

My arrows kind of go every where, but they aren't a good match!

It is great fun though

I used to shoot beautiful groups... in the grass to the left of the target. Could never get my head around the aiming at a point that isn't where I want to hit. Then I changed cars & the longbow didn't fit any more. I now shoot a classic hunter for field, but the bow itself is still active in the club.

Talking Longbow!!

Hi again,

Yeah it is good, excellent relaxation. The bow is just over 40lbs at my titchy draw length. It's black walnut with a hickory back. It was bought as "complete" from Rudderbows in the US but we found that they're not quite up to speed on the definition of a longbow "English style", so a very excellent man in our club whittled and fettled until he made a gorgeous bow of it. I have the same problem as you LMP; The bow's great but this nugget needs to work harder. I've found it much better when I realised that I don't have to hold on for grim death - my grip is now as relaxed as on the recurve and this sure improved the groups (when I remember to aim properly and remember there's no cut out).
Thanks for your comments everyone. have to work on GMB now, next posting on this subject will probably be in fifty years then!

That's why you need a well matched set of arrows. (I assume that the arrows were flying to the right) Longbows need weaker arrows than the equivelant recurve due to the lack of centre shot, and the fact that they are less efficiant. With the right arrows who knows how good you could be.
