Red face Shooting...sometimes

As club secretary and assistant to the coach, I spend most club nights coaching kids, doing paperwork, repairing kit (I'm equipment officer too!) and collecting cash when the treasurer doesn't show up.

My achievement this week was that I actually shot a Portsmouth round, which doubled the number of arrows I've loosed since August!!! Pretty good, huh??

Do any other club officials have this problem??

Happy Days

Mike

Every one I know.

Took over as equipment officer after we got robbed.

It's a nightmare trying to keep track of everything, especially when you have three sites, outdoor, indoor and field.

I think that is one of the problems stopping people from joining the committee

I'm our club's tournament director and advanced coach. I also sell gear and run an online archery store.
I make it clear to people that I must also shoot and make sure I get my usual shooting in. It's 100% vital to doing the job right.
Some days I get inundated with people, but I have set times to see me and that works out well.
Our club makes it clear that ALL members, regardless of position, are there to shoot and to respect their rights as shooters first and foremost.

I admire those that give their time so freely, after all we have all benefited from it. Marcus seems to have it right but I don't know of anyone here who manages to combine the two elements so successfully. Certainly for now it is the reason I wouldn't consider even an Archery leader course - I started late and have a lot of shooting to catch up on
Having said that I have to add (a little more unselfishly!) that when the time comes that I think I have something useful to pass on I will happily do so - by the time I know anything useful I'll be past shooting anyway!

You have my sincerest sympathies, Trequoit. I'm in a similar situation - the club is rather small, and since our old Chairman gave up archery for reasons best known to himself, I found myself nominated and seconded to replace him in half a second flat, just because I happened to open my mouth to ask what was involved...

I also seem to have found myself in the coaching role as well - even though I haven't, as yet, got an official qualification... Strictly speaking, I'm 'under the supervision' of other club members who have qualified, but prefer to shoot themselves and let me handle the coaching side of things

Hence the reason why my Portsmouth score for this month was so abysmal - it was the first time I've actually shot my own bow for three months! It's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!

Having said that, I find coaching extremely rewarding - the enthusiasm that beginners often have is completely infectious! And although it's great to see, it's also sometimes slightly disheartening when former 'pupils' trounce your Portsmouth score by a huge margin!

Same here! Funnily enough, I think poor facilities are at the heart of the problem. Nowhere at the club to carry out admin work, or store the associated guff, so everything is kept at home, and on my computer: secretary, membership, records, newsletter - anything that involves members - is so interlinked that it seems a greater effort to split it between members than just do it myself. And, on the one day a week we can shoot indoors, if I am there I am visible for queries about everything - yes, even coaching. If the archers I have trained into the sport during the summer ask for help - because they know and trust me - I am not going to turn them away. But, if we had a club "office" where eveything could be shared between the officers, and more shooting time, life would be a lot easier.
Do other clubs have an "office"?
