When it goes right - it feels GREAT!!

I have been shooting ok - better in solo practice than in what I like to think of as proper shoots at the weekend which logs your score, at all ranges.

I have been shooting hard but I have been on a plateau now for what feels like an eternity with no matter what I do I keep making stupid mistakes, usually with my release although my bow arm going left at release is also a real pain in the $%£%!!!

Just set myself a new portsmouth PB which not only smashes my previous scores but I hope shows I have finally broken through my plataeu - rather than just being a fluke.

But either way it was an absolutely fantastic feeling - really in 'the zone'. Still felt like I was making errors but they were just outside in the 9 and not the all too familiar wayward 7 or 8 that completely knackers my score.

Just need to see if I can take this new found confidence out to 100yrds now so I can get that blasted bowman.... closest I have been is 30 off a bowman score so far.
Fingers crossed guys

Hello Jaarus,
This is the first time that I've posted a reply on Archery Interchange so forgive me if things look a bit haywire!
You're quite right, when it goes right it feels great but it sounds to me like you try too hard to make things happen. I believe the only way to get "into the zone" is to completely let go in the trying department and just let your body get on with the shooting. The less you interfere in things the better. Just let a good shot and follow through happen naturally and let the feedback from it sink into your bones. Just let your eye rest on the gold, don't try too hard to aim rigidly, it doesn't help. Let the pin, or whatever you use to aim, float; if you hold the gold with your aiming eye your sight will go back to it (usuall!) if you drift. When you let it work, it's like magic!
Best wishes with your practice.

Yeah, I do tend to analyse everything a bit too much.

Not sure what it is thats clicked - perhaps I am thinking less (lol) but scored another PB, this time on a Long National a few days ago, and that was in the worst weather imaginable
