Getting Ever Closer!!!

A new Portsmouth PB again last night 487 now . So near and yet so far from 500 !! No pressure now, but I've only got one session left indoors, so it's make or break time on Sunday afternoon. PLEASE keep all fingers crossed for me !!! (But don't let it interfere with your own archery of course !!!)

I never got the chance to shoot a proper portsmouth indoors and we are outdoors now.

Brenda, the only advice I can give you is not to think about beating 500 but to relax and enjoy the shooting. I got stuck on the 490's for a long time and decided it wasn't going to happen for me and I shot a 509. The next one a few weeks later was 530 so it might come good if you RELAX. You have 2 1/2 minutes to shoot your arrows so use the time.

And don't total your score until the end. If you don't know how close you are, it won't put you off!!

Oh the golden word .... RELAX !! That's something that I always seem to be able to manage only AFTER I've finished !!! But, I'm definately going to try not going to focus on 500, just on the gold and red bit in the middle and then wait and see what happens !! Keep your fingers crossed for me Bill !

Strange you should say that ... been stuck 440 - 460 (and sometimes down to 408 - 415) for ages, with a PB of 470 which seemed to have been a fluke. Then my coach took the score book off me last week, and wouldn't let me look until I'd finished ... got 480. Last night he let me write the scores down, but only on pain of death if I added them up before the end ... got 487 ! As my coach won't be there on Sunday, think I'll ask someone else to score for me on Sunday, just so I'm not tempted!!!!

Yes, aim for 515, then if you miss it by 2 points......

Don't aim for anything, Flo, just shoot. Don't think about the score you want or the one you think you have. Don't be tempted to mentally add up your arrow scores. Just don't. Be a good girl, relax, take every shot one at a time. If you shoot a crap arrow, don't dwell on it.

I was in your position just a few months ago. When I stopped caring about the elusive 500 (I was even closer at 493), I shot a 515. When I stopped caring about 520, I shot a 533. As so many will tell you, one day it just happens and you won't look back!

OK so fluffed the 500 on Sunday completely! 462. But think I'm happier with that, than if I'd missed by 2 or 3 !! There's always next year !!!

You'll improve over the summer and will have no problems getting it next indoor season. Of course, there's nothing to say you can't shoot it outdoors!
