Longbow PB

Only got it recently (in fact today was my second time shooting a round with it - 'twas a birthday present to myself )
Last weekend was the clubs 150th annivesary shoot so it felt like the right time to unleash it upon the world (despite it also being a handicap shoot so I wasn't elligable for any of the snazzy 150th trophies as I dont have a Longbow handicap yet - that aside I chose to shoot it)

We were all shooting a National round (4 doz @ 60yrds, 2 doz @ 50yrds) and scored 166 - missing out on a 3rd class by 20 or so points.
Not too bad for a first outing, so I figured 3rd class was in the bag after a bit of practice.

Went along today bow in hand and one of the guys I shoot with already setting up a longbow target at 80yrds as he was going to be shooting a Long National.
I figured 'why not' - its all good practice.

Despite seeming to miss all the time (at least in my "recurve" eyes) I scored 165.
I thought "bugger.... one point worse than last week! oh well I will get my first third class score next weekend for sure"

Then it dawned on me I was shooting a LONG National - I got my first secondclass score!!

Chuffed as larry.
Anyway, I have wittered on here enough so now I will just

Talking Your Longbow

I too have just got my first longbow it was made for me at the club I shoot for, "just shot my first 12 arrows at 50/60 yards normally shoot Recurve but have been dying to shoot longbow for a long-time.

My longbow is fairly low poundage of 35 IIBS with a draw of 28 inches, what yours? Must be fairly heavy if you can hit 90 yards

Who do you shoot with?

my longbow is 40 ilb and 28 inch and I can get well over 100 yd, if you have the space why not just see if you can shoot an arrow to the 100 yd mark.

My 'orrible 11 year old has a 30# hickory and lemonwood (about 68") bow but he only draws about 25 inch. He can reach 100 yards (accuracy needs work tho!)

Wink shooting longbow at 100 yards for first time

Well I feel that with a lot of practise I know I can do it just feel like I will build up slowly and would just be more than happy to hit the target at a hundred yards and think that if I get 3 out of 6 of my 9/32 28inch with 63 grain points with two and a half inch fletching!! But think there will be a lot of misses to just hope not to hit to many flints

If you can average 3 hits out of 6, then that's going to produce some good scores. It probably reflects better shooting than you realise!
