Pin sights

Are there any FITA or GNAS target rounds in which pin sights are legal? I quite fancy getting a Hoyt Vectrix sight for my compound, but I'm wondering if having three pins constitutes multiple aiming references.

I presume pins are legit for field?

Any experiences with pin sights, or opinions on what's good, bad, overpriced, etc?

RE: Pin sights

Pin sights as you say are perfectly legal in Field Archery. They are also legal in NFAS freestyle (recurve with sights).

I believe that GNAS has a class, Compound Limited, compound bow with pin sight, shot off the fingers, no release aid.

RE: Pin sights

There's a thing by Detowis that has the pins mounted at 45 degrees with respect to the arrow, which is absolutely great. The one thing you'll notice is that rarely will your pins move. This is because they're designed to just sit there, as opposed to a standard target sight, which is...

RE: Pin sights

Thanks! I like finger-shooting compound, so it could be the class for me.

I hadn't heard of Detowis, but that sounds like a good design. I'll check it out. Or perhaps have a bash at making one -- pin sights look quite do-able. (Deceptively so? )

RE: Pin sights

I'm not sure on the rules with multi pins in GNAS/FITA however I would see no problem in using them, you could even look at the Toxonics multi pin (Top Gun I think its called) this uses multi pins and has a scope lens too, best of both worlds </p>

RE: Pin sights

Curiously (!) the Rules of Shooting are a bit ambiguous here.

For recurve feestyle rule 202 (e) states that only a single sihting pin is permitted but rule 207(e) for compound unlimited isn't that specific - better ask a judge !!

RE: Pin sights

Extract from the GNAS Rules of Shooting.

208. Compound Limited The Compound Limited is generally as described for Compound Unlimited in Rule 207 but with the following variations:

(d) Multipin sights are allowed, except for archers shooting for FITA Awards
