Question Advice

Hello Compounders

I have some questions.

I’m currently shooting recurve and have 37/38 Lbs on my fingers, but i am starting to get some back pain from it (recurring old injury), and was seriously considering buying into the compound market.

Iv got £400 cash to spend without selling my recurve setup, which I could get £300-350 for.

Do I :

1. Use my £400 to get a second-hand bow with kit,
2. Sell my recurve setup and have £700+ to spend on a second-hand setup
3. Sell it all and buy new (might not have enough )

I need to keep in mind all the extras I would need, Arrows, release aid, etc

I would go to a local shop and try a few makes out first to get an idea which one I like before buying of course

Thanks

Paul

A good starting place might be to see if someone at your club would let you shoot their compound.
If you know your recurve draw length, you could start looking for a compound bow that is at least one inch shorter than that, to take into account the release aid.Getting the draw length close to what you need is important, even for trial purposes.
I would go for a modestly priced bow that is fairly up to date.
You may manage with your current arrows and sight for some time to come.
Get a good release aid and learn how to use it properly.

Shame to see you making the change so quickly... but I suppose injuries are more important to look after!

What's your draw length again? I know someone who's selling a setup that might be perfect for you...

Hi Grant,

I have not quite made up my mind yet. I really enjoy shooting recurve and am reluctant to move over . The next couple of weeks will be a deciding factor I think. A little rest now and try again with some back exercises

My draw length is 28"

Im using ACC 29" 3L-18 (T6 Range) 36-40Lbs

Paul

Well, Clint Freeman is looking to sell his Mathews Conquest 4 setup at 28" before he goes back to Australia (doesn't want to bring it back, for some reason). But he'll be gone come this Sunday, I think. If you're interested let me know and I'll put you in contact. He hasn't mentioned price yet.

Hiya,

Not that I'm trying to keep you from crossing over, but if your current poundage is causing you pain, have you thought of taking a little off the poundage first, to see if that clears it up? Could be as simple as that, not that I'd know, but people have mentioned to me that a few pounds can really make the difference. I'm still on 32# atm after a year, and I'm almost glad I've not tried too much too soon.

You could then build strength back up again, and grow accustomed to it, perhaps?

Where you have mentioned "a modestly priced bow" would a Martin Jaguar bow with accessories and case come into that bracket at arround £200-250?

Seen one for sale and was wondering if it would be worth going for it for that type of cash?
