compound bows for lady archer

Hi all, I'm looking to buy a compound for my wife at the moment she is using a second hand hoyt banshee 26# . we are looking for a light (in the hand) bow 30-40# all we have seen at the moment is the hoyt rintec xl are there any other bows that would suit her ?

For the boys at merlin ,i have heard tonight that you might be producing a light weight ladies bow, is this true and what sort of time scale are you looking at ?

Thanks Gary

there will be a new merlin out in the new year BUT I would seriously consider the XS now. It is not comparitively a heavy riser and an excellent bow. The only other option I would consider is the mathews prestige

There is also the Hoyt Selena and Avenger. I have a Vipertec which is a couple of years old!

You could look at the Bowtech Equaliser, and Matthews Prestige, both are designed for shorter draw archers and are under 4lb in the hand. It may be worth waiting a few months to see what the new offerings are from manufacturers.

Hi we metat Targetcraft Tuesday night,we spoke about compounds. I have got a merlin xv at home your wife could try and hold to see if it is too heavy. The draw weight would probably be too heavyfor her to shoot .I think it is 30 -40lb at 26".If you are up there on friday i will bring it for her to feel how heavy it is.That could save you a trip to Loughborough.Let me know

Yep, the prestige is a good choice. Rapunzel has just started to shoot one (26"@30-40lb) and it is a light mass weight bow - 3.9lbs ish. The Merlins are heavier, the xs around 4.2lb?

From our own investigations - these sort of draw length/weight bow combinations are not all that easy to get hold of, so availability might be your ultimate desiding factor unless she wants to wait. She originally wanted a Hoyt Avenger but we were quoted 12 weeks delivery and the Bowtech Equalisers weren't in colours to her liking (thats women for you)!!!

Hi Gary,

We have several new goodies on the cards for next year. One of which is a new bow aimed at the ladies market, but I can't yet give you a delivery date. It will certainly need to be ready for the start of next years outdoor season at the latest, though Ideally I will have it ready Jan/Feb. Depends how smooth the development goes.

Currently the XS is our most popular bow for ladies. The new bow will not be replacing the XS, just adding a new choice. If you would like to test a bow, we can arrange to build one up for you.

The TM5 is our lightest bow at around 3.75 lbs and is a very good intermediate level compound. Though the overall performance is not as high as the XS.
