Best anchor point for shooting a compound with fingers?

Does anybody have views on the best anchor point for shooting a compound with fingers?

In the past I used to anchor with my first finger in the corner of my mouth (the way I used to shoot hunting tackle). But now I have a new bow and the sight mount for my 5 pin sight is located considerably higher than my last bow which means I can’t lower my pins low enough to get the distances I need. I also use a rear peep sight.

Do other people anchor on their jawlines? A recurve target anchor (under chin and string aligned to nose) makes it hard to see through a rear peep sight and I am struggling to see how to get a really consistent anchor by placing my hand somewhere along my jawline (the other thing I would add is that I have a beard and I don’t want to get beardhairs trapped around the string!)

For info, the sight I use a Spot-Hogg Hogg-it has quite a lot of adjustment but the new bow (a Bowtech Commander) is lifting it up about 2cm compared to my old Merlin, so to hit 20 yards I need to use my 50 yard pin.

Regards

Andrew

I personally anchor along my Jaw line (Middle and pointer finger either side of the Jaw) I have a fairly flat hand and string to nose, an anchor is a really personal thing, I don't think there is a right or wrong, it is what feels comfortable and what is repeatable.

Edit - SORRY Just read the WITH FINGERS bit, the comments above are for me using a release-aid

I anchor as per recurve. There is no reason you can't just move your anchor from its present point to a point on the jaw line directly below the corner of the mouth on the jaw line. You may need to move the anchor a little further back to get the peep where you want it, ie as close to the eye as it was before, and you may need to reposition you peep vertically.

why change your anchor point andrew, you shot your merlin ok , i shoot the same way myself with the finger in the side of my mouth,i could never get used to lowering my anchor to under my chin so i have to just put up with the sight being a tad lower,

Or you could just remove the peep sight and shoot without it !

I had a similar problem with my Ross CR337. I'm using a Copper John 5 pin sight, so I fabricated a plate from carbon fibre to drop the entire housing down about 1/2 and inch.

Not my fix, I pinched the idea from a nice guy I was talking to at the Nationals the other week.
