Heads up for Guardian/Commander shooters

Just thought I'd give a heads up to anyone shooting a Bowtech Guardian or Commander. Keep an eye on the screws for the clamping plates on the pivot points midway along the limbs, I had the screws on the upper limb clamping plate come loose and the pivot point moved marginally on the limb, luckily I noticed a change in the noise of the bow when shot and found the offending item before any damage was done, as the clamp on the lower limb was still tight I was able to duplicate the measurements when re-setting the upper clamp. I'd already used Loctite on the draw length module screws and now the limb clamp screws will be getting the treatment.

Cheers, Jim

Hi Jim,

Personally I can't see how that could possibly happen (the pivot point moving I mean). The underside of the limb has a locating hole where a pin in the clamping plate locks it in place exactly half way along the limb.

I didn't know there was a locating pin in the limb, but when i checked the measurement from cam axel to pivot pin with a dial caliper there was a small difference between top and bottom limbs, I did notice a click as I pushed the pivot point back, which at the time I thought was a bit of stiction on the rubber pad of the clamp plate but on reflection was probably the locating pin seating into the hole in the limb properly, in all likelyhood the pin probably hadn't come right out of the locating hole but may have been forced to one side and might have started to wear the limb if I hadn't caught it in time. I still think it is a worthwhile precaution to Loctite the clamp screws to prevent possible damage.

Cheers, Jim

If i remember correctly there was a case of this in a post at AT where the pin had moved from the locating hole and it split the limb.

There is also a post on A/T about someone having their Guardian limbs changed through cam lean. A point I brought up some weeks back and got a fair amount of flack over, plus posts about the Guardian centre shot being way out from the riser. Mmmmm.
