D Loops, how do you tie them?

Is there a noddy guide to tieing d loops? Would you recommend tieing your own or is it best to get a professional on the job?

Hi Zanda,

Thanks very much for that, very interesting and it looks soo simple!! It doesnt say however, how long the d loop rope should be from start off? Is there a desired length or does it just depend?

same length as the one coming off?.

cut it off carefully & use the pieces to give you a rough guide to length.

once you melt & flatten the ends of course!

If you want a little more DL to get into a comfy anchor lengthen it a tad & see how it feels.

I have found that if you tie the D-loop so the D part lays flat across the nocking point, when you stretch it with D-Loop pliers (or however you do it) it will stretch and tighten to the correct size. So basically you have a knot at each side and the D part taught between the two knots. Any longer before you stretch and the D-Loop could be too long.

You may also want to check peep alignment before pulling the loop to tight.

When your burning the second knot, if you do it on the string them remember to wrap some tin foil around the string and d-loop to protect it.

this is probably a really stupid question but here goes... do the d loop pliers that are available simply stretch the d loop and tighten the 'knots' or somehow do they magically install the dloop on the bow string?.......awaiting the bashing, go gently please..

get some string & practise on a pencil

bear in mind one of the ends you see in the picture will be cut & melted into a flat end to stop the knot coming undone.
