Centre Shot? Off centre sight?

As the outdoor season looms on the horizon I am wondering how I can make the best of my Compound bow, as I need to gain 40 to 50 points more than last year to get MB.

One thing that bugs me is variation of windage over different distances, and I always have the sight off centre to the string/arrow. I tend to have to adjust windage at a distance change, this costs points as it can take a few ends to get the sight right. I have had this problem on all Compounds I have shot.

I am left handed, the sight is always biased to the right, this varies depending on the distance, but is noticeable even at 20 yds. I have checked and double checked centre shot.

Does anyone know of any reason why all this is the case?

A few questions:
How did you check centre shot, and against what? Did you bare shaft test?

Have you levelled your sight in all axes?

Do you have a level? and do you check that it is centred on all shots?

I'm assuming you shoot with a release aid...?

Bare shaft ain't too good from a compound, however a paper tune is on the cards.

All the others...yep done em all

RGS, how did you set your centre shot? I recommend that you do a walk-back test to set it properly. I suspect that this is the root-cause of your problem, but it's not impossible to shoot good scores even if it is a bit off. In target archery you know what distances you're shooting, so you can figure it out as being X number of clicks to the left/right when you go from 90 to 70m, etc. In field archery with it's contstantly changing distances, centre-shot is critical.

Cheers Adam,

I will do a bit of walk back in the spring. Knowing were the problem is, is a good way to finding a solution. To pinpoint centre shot will do me.

Regards

Rich

Hi Rich. On the accuriser centre shot is really easy. Just make sure the arrow is directly above the top bolt of your grip. I've checked this with a laser tool and the bolt is dead centre. Also make sure the sight is levelled in all planes, there's lots of articles online and the Larry Wise book is good too.

Centre-shot isn't about where the middle of the riser is, it's about where the string track is.

Thats true but if you knew anything about the accuriser then you'd realise that with the wedel cams and shoot through system the string track is exactly down the centre of the riser.

Agreed. But the number of people out there shooting the Accuriser is very, very small (particularly in the UK). My comment was aimed more broadly, at the majority who shoot bows/cams of other origin.
