Peep

I have a question re peep sights..... should I be able to see the outside of my scope through my peep or is the fact I can only see the gold and the 8 zone (if this was FITA) in the centre of my scope good enough. I seem to be scoring okay - is this just a feature of 33" ATA bows i.e peep further from eye or should I move to a peep with changeable apertures?

I would guess that either your peep is a very long way from your eye (yes, shorter bows do emphasise this) and/or you have a very small peep hole. If you are getting good results there is no problem....except you won't be able to see your bubble.

How far from your eye is the peep? Does your nose touch the string (to echo another thread)? If the string needs to move back, you may need to lengthen your draw length. Have you got any pictures of you shooting taken from the front? What bow are you shooting?

Most people would answer `yes` to the first part of your question. But a friend of mine (a GMB archer) has his setup the way you have yours. I asked him why he has it that way and he said "I`m only interested in the gold"
And after seeing his grouping at 70mtrs i would say, set up that way is fine.

It's all a matter of compromise, a very small peep will centre the spot well, but can make it hard to see in poorer light conditions. A larger hole means you will have to visually centre the scope in the peep, but will be more tolerant of light conditions. Glare will also affect a small peep hole more as well.

Myself, I would advise using the smallest peep you feel comfortable with.

For field archery, small peeps are a nightmare if you have targets with dapple from trees on a target in the shade. I've seen many a perfect 20 group.......... on a circle of sunlight !!!

Its a bowtech

yes it is a small peep - but I can see my bubble. just not clear space round the outside of the scope ring.

NO piccies I'm afraid. I have quite a solid point to bring string back to. And makes no difference if string touches my nose or not. I've had draw length checked and it is fine....

I am finding it a bit dark indoors hence my thinking about superball peep

I use the Superball and I do tend to change the aperture for indoors. Outdoors I use the smallest aperture and indoors one about 2 or 3 sizes up.
