Join the revolution....evolution...whatever!!

What really is the difference between the evolution and revolution release aids from carter aside from the evolution has a whole finger, are they roughly the same? Any thoughts, experiences would be very much appreciated. Thanks

What bow do you shoot as they can be difficult to setup on some bows. Mainstream manufacturers bows form Hoyt, Bowtech etc should be no problem but I had a Bladerunner that would not work and I know that bows with an 80% let off can be tricky.

Basically they work the same - just remember to keep your finger on the safety trigger till you are ready to release. I have one and use it for training as does my wife. I have seen a number of archers forget to keep their fingers on the safety and watch the arrow release early

However they are an excellent release and worth the effort setting up and using. If your not sure about setting it up yourself or have an 80% L/O I would go to Simon at CBA or Ben at Merlin as I have heard a few archers say they had them setup their Evo's.

I have a matthews and soon a Bowtech, neither of them with 80% let off. When you say keep your finger on the safety until your ready to release do you mean, until your at full draw and settled, then you can start pulling?

I shoot an evolution +, as i understand it the revolution's safety is operated by your little finger, rather than your thumb. With regard to keeping your finger on/off the safety, I draw up, then take my thumb off as I setttle, if i settle first taking the thumb of becomes a concious decison and i twitch when i do so.
With regard to setting up, if you have an idea of your holding weight you can initially set the release up fairly easily if you have a set of handheld bowscales then fine tune it, with the new carters the spring system is dead easy to change and the fine adjustment is quick.

John Dudley's site is a good place to read about the evolution/revolution release aids and their use.

Quite a few articles i've read advocate practicing using the release with a cord set at your draw length and then shooting a blank boss for some time before trying to shoot with it properly.

Unfortunately i read these articles after my 1st attempt at trying to use the revolution and ending up stuffing 4 of my cobalts into the concrete wall that sits behind my boss at home. ( I tried using it straight off at 18m )

Loesch TB

The Loesch True Back tension was the first release on the market to use this design. However with the loesch you DONT need to hold in a safty to draw your bow! You pull to full draw then hold in a safty and pull. If you need to let down simply let the safty back in an come down.

The safty is external so you can be sure your release is safe before coming down, Unlike the Evo which I found you could never be sure if the safty had engaged properly or not.

I switched to the Loesch from a carter target 4 last year and smashed my PB's!

Hi Watch_Man, what problems have you heard about with 80% let off?

I use an evolution with the Guardian and have noticed one issue. However I left the tension the same as I had for the Ultratec. I find it is too easy to pull with arms instead of using back tension. I'd be interested to hear what else can go wrong

I don't think they're that tricky I was slightly twitchy the first time i shot one, but had it sorted within about a dozen shots. I shot a Loesh for a day in training, the problem I've found with the Loesh is that the safety is not a particularly smooth action and again its a conscious decision to disengage it and to reengae it isnt the easiest of things to do, whereas the carter you just put your thumb/finger back on the button. But personal preference again i suppose. I love my evo +
