long risers

been trying to figure out the relative merits of long limbed Ultra/Pro Elite vs something like the Vantage 7/8
They'd both end up circa 40"ata and similar brace but one would have most of that length in the limbs and the other mostly in the riser
Anyone care to speculate on which might be better for target archery and why?

I suppose it would come down to the amount of reaction from the bow you prefer. As a general rule a long riser bow will have more 'towards parallel' limbs for the same axle to axle lenght. This would means less reaction from the bow on shot.

The long limbs should reduce torque because they move the cam closer to the archer which reduces the effect

if I understand you correctly, you're saying a proelite w xt3000 limbs will induce less torque than an x7 with xt1000 limbs?

are ther tradeoffs in the other direction? I'm assuming there's areason for the long risers?

Yes, speed and as Jerry said the longer riser short limb combo has less libration.
While the ProElite XT3000 will torque less than the UltraELite I personally prefer the UltraElite due to it's additional speed and I think better balance.

What's your draw length?

30" DL

never owned/shot a Hoyt so tempted to get one to play with but some people are saying th 737& Vantage are an advance on te Elite series, hence the question...

btw Given what's been said so far, would a 37" parallel limb bow w 8* brace therefore give the best of both worlds?[theoretically speaking of course]

I can't see how they would be an advance on the Elite series. I was shooting an 04 UltraElite last night and it is STILL the best designed riser out there.
It's up to you. I think a ProElite XT3000 or the X8 would be your best choice at 30" draw.

My son mace24 shoots a ProElite Xt3000 at 321/2" draw he needs to go to 33" or 331/2" as the Hoyt is one of the only bows to do that long a draw length ,he has got to make a choice of the ProElite or the UltrsElite .Is there any difference at the longer draw. He is an MB Archery and has shot GMB scores last year and has just turned 18 .He is that draw length and cannot shorten it (he is 6'9") and shoots with a Zenith back tension release

Wow, he's a freaking monster. Maybe a XT3500 is worth considering that that length.
