Back tension release set-up

This question has probably been answered several times before but I searched and couldn't find it! I have just purchased a Carter Evolution Plus, having been shooting to date with a trigger type release. The Evolution comes factory set to release at ~19 lbs. The holding weight of my bow is ~21 lbs. The Evolution is of course fully adjustable and comes with a set of springs to set a wide range of release weights - the installed spring allows adjustment from 14 to 30 lbs.

My question is what is the best weight to set it to release at initially?

Thanks

Generally around 3lbs over holding weight is a good starting point, then adjust to suit.

Depends on what bow you are shooting. Some bows have a "spongy" stop so you need to have it set light as the arrow is still moving through the draw. Some bows have a hard, positive stop and you can set it to your desired back tension pressure.

The way I set mine was draw, settle, lift off the safety and if it went off it was to light and I adjusted until it didn’t go off on its own, once I was happy with this I put the allen keys away, this was done so as not to keep messing, because I have seen people adjust and adjust thinking the release is at fault when in reality it’s the archer.
Shoot it at close range at first blank boss for a while then the results should come
Have fun HH
