Third Axis Sights - What For Exactly?

While contemplating a selection of compound sights, I noticed that a number of manufacturers offered a third axis adjustment on the scope mount. I can’t see what advantage this might have for pure target shooting, other than to make it easier to level the scope, while on the downside, having more bits and pieces to shake loose in the middle of a tournament. I have heard that the third axis adjustment is mainly used for field shooting where it can help with setting up the scope for shooting up/down/across slopes. Are there any real advantages to this gizmo for pure target work and what are they?

Fir pure target use it is of little value, and is only there if your sight or scope is bent anyway. One of those features which is there because people think it should be.
Problem is just about every good sight has it, so don't stress about finding one without.
