Scope lenses

Just wandering, what diopter is in your scope & was it your choice, if so, why?

I wear glasses for reading or close-up work. How does a scope lense work with spec' lenses, or is there no problem. I had read someplace that a scope/glasses combination was to be avoided at all costs.

I ask the above, as I was asked the same questions the other day by a would be archer.

I use a 0.5 dioptre lens (magnification 2X) at present. I find that anything more powerful makes finding the gold difficult.
I still shoot the wrong target on occasion as i can't see the target numbers through the scope.

I use a 39mm Beiter 0.75. I find the focus as clear at 100yds as it is at 20 yds, also good in the field shooting 3D's I use a medium peep in the field, for "light gathering"and a small for target. My wife has just gone to a 0.75 as she wears varifocals. She drops her specs on to the end of her nose and shoots without them and can now see the target more clearly.

Just gone over to compound for the 2006 outdoor season and use a 0.75 diopter with a 1/16" peep (recommended by the Aardvarks). One surprising side effect is that I no longer need my glasses to shoot - the scope and peep clarify the target better than my specs.

39mm diameter Beiter 0.75 diaopter, with 1/16 peep.

I got to this after experimentation with 0.5, 1.0 scopes, I find that it gives a good sizes gold to aim at, I am trying different pin sizes at the moment and have been shooting a 4mm pin with most success indoors.

It sounds like you have the Beiter pin kit. Apparently, you put in a pin that completely fills the gold at whatever distance you are shooting. I still like a stick on circle as well.

Does it ever LMP! Complete blur beyond 10 yards without them, but much easier to use my scope or binoculars now. I just have to figure out a way to decide which boss to shoot at! Can't say it helps my social life though, as I usually end up talking to lamp posts

The Mrs let me splash out on a new sight and scope just after xmas, I treated myself to a Sureloc Supreme and Beiter 39mm scope.

I chose the 1.00 diopter as previously I'd used a Petron scope that came with 0.5 0.75 and 1.00 Tried all three found I had good results with the 0.5, didn't see so much wobble but couldn't get so many tens, the 0.75 didn't work for me at all and the extra mag that the 1.00 gave me was perfect as I could get the scope body wrapped concentricly around the red.

The Beiter with a nice thin frame ring, the smallest pin and the largest ring gives me a perfect arrangement. Plenty of light gathering, a nice small dot that doesn't get in my way and the ring fits perfectly just inside the gold on a 60cm at 20yds. All i do is get that lined up and squeeze the release.

Found a really good guide to diopters and magnification on the sureloc website. It explains the relationship between diopter, distance from eye and magnification. Makes me feel really clever when people just quote magnification without really understanding it!
