Question Carter Target 3 or Carter Solution 3?

Well, find this both on eBay, same price.

Carter Target 3

Carter Solution 3

For FITA (indoor and outdoors), wich one is the best? I've never seen a Carter, so i an't even try one.

I am currently using the Carter target 3 and love it. I have quite small hands and had trouble finding a release aid that felt right. It should also be ok for someone with medium size hands although its a very individual thing. I would always say that its a good idea to try one before you part with any money otherwise it could be an expensive mistake. I have no idea about the other release aid.

I use a target 4 and find that its just the right size for my hands - medium. There is no substitute for trying kit out, especially something as personal as a release aid. The other thing is you've chosen a 3 finger and a 4 finger - I prefer to use a 4 finger release, purely because my hand becomes incredibly tense and I can't pull through as easily with a 3 finger. Archery_Mum on the other hand clearly shows a preference for a 3 finger (and shoots blomin' well with it too), so what suits us may well not suit you.

I may be wrong in saying this, but isn't the sensation a hinge release? If so, then there is even more necessity to try them out. From what I've heard (never shot one myself, but I've only shot compound for about 6 weeks) they are either love it or hate it type items.

I own a Target 4 which I use as a back up for a wrist release. When I bought it ,the shop loaned me it along with a Solution 3.I really wanted the Solution 3 but could not get on with it.It 's a back tension release which requires the release to be rotated slightly to fire it,I think anyone with the dedication to stick with it and master it would get on well with it but it was not for me.I know someone who bought the Solution 3 to cure T/P but it only helped him for a short while, so it is obviously no cure.

The solution 3 is both back tension or thumb trigger:

"With the Solution 3, the archer has the ability to shoot the release as a back-tension style release with a safety, or as a thumb trigger release, all with the simple turning of a single set screw."

Although the Target 3 has a trigger I have mine set so that there is no travel in the trigger. I also have a heavy spring in it aswell. This enables me to use it as a back tension release. Too many archers have the trigger set too light and this can lead to them anticipating the shot.

That's exactly what I do with mine. I use the 135# (stiffest) spring customized to about 110#

I have mine (also a Target 3) set with no travel, but the lightest possible spring. It's all a matter of personal preference.

Agreed, release aids are such a personal thing

I shot with a light spring till JD swapped me to a stiffer one at my first coaching session and I found it works for me.
