Drawing against the stops !

I use a Hoyt, Ultra38, the way I shoot is to push against the riser, and pull hard on the string, indeed if I don't shoot like that I can't keep the bow steady on gold.
The Hoyt uses the cable as a draw stop, from observing a friends bow I know that its possible to actually over draw, and deflect the cable, How do I overcome that problem, do I need to be bothered about it, opinions pls folks !

I wondered the same when I was shooting my merlin storm(cornish george take note) because the "stops" were provided by the cables. I saw photo's of myself bending the cables by pulling. some inconsistency would be possible from what i can fathom

Most Hoyts have the ability to overdraw about an inch or 2, but i cant say its something i would do regularly as it would mean an inconsistant draw length.

Using this method would also mean that you are putting undue strain on your bow arm's elbow and shoulder which could lead to injuries or problems in the future.

When you draw youre bow back whats youre stance, position of arm's etc., info like poundage and d/l would be usefull as well.

As the problem could be that you are shooting too high a poundage or your bow setup weighs too much for youre bow arm to hold.

Those of us who shoot a pull back tension release have to pull to the weight the release aid is set to go off at so are pulling hard against the stops. Most of the folks I know shoot Hoyts - Ultratecs Elites etc. and I've not heard any mention a problem. I would have thought as long as your cams are straight and the cable is hitting the stop channel you should be fine.

You need to watch your cam timing, this must be perfect, within 1/2 a twist, or you will get high shots as you pull harder into the wall.
I time my staff's Hoyts on a draw board and measure the nock travel as I pull into the wall to make sure it is flat.
With Erika's Guardian last year I tested it in a hooter shooter by drawing 3" past full draw and it still nailed X's. An out of time Hoyt will shoot high 9's at 18m pulling just half an inch too far. Time it and it's fine though.

Have you taken the rubber stops out of your cams? If not then do it and you should feel a difference when you pull into the cams. If you have been over pulling you will probably find the rubber stops are damaged anyway. When we took Wendy's out they were all dented and nearly cut through.

What Marcus said about measuring nock travel is something you need to think about, we use an Apple Draw Length tool and a sheet of card and plot the nock travel.

My thanks to all concerned for your thoughts, advice etc.
So you seem to be saying provided the timing is ok the overdraw isnt that big a deal, which is exactly what I wanted to know, nice one guys

I have been told to pull hard into the stop as it will give me a slightly heavier holding weight and will make me steadier in windy conditions

You should only pull as hard as you can while holding still.

erm... does this contradict what i said? The whole point is holding still enough to aim is it not?
