changing older carter BK springs. How easy?

I have an insatiable 3 with nice and easy ITS.

I also have an old BK.

I would like to make the springs stronger in the BK.

Carter recommend not to do this but to return it for them to do it. My experience of taking spring loaded things apart is that springs fly everywhere and its difficult to work out where they go!

How easy is it to change the springs?
Are there any diagrams showing where the springs go in case they should fly out?
Do the spare springs that come with the newer insatiable fit the old BK?
If not are there any archery shops that sell the springs off the shelf?

Try looking athis article by John Dudley www.dudleyarchery.info/articles/biissue31.pdf it gives you a good idea on taking apart a Carter release including taking it apart in a plastic bag to save you losing the springs. I don't know where you can the springs though.

You can get the springs from Carter, although they recommend that the release is sent back to them to have work done they will provide spares for their releases, it might also be a good thing to ask for some casing screws at the same time because if the release hasn't been opened for some time the screws can be really tight to undo and the hexagon socket can round out. The springs sit in pockets milled into the release casing, if you want more info, phone Carter and talk to Forrest, he's very helpful and really knows his stuff.

Cheers, Jim.

I will get onto Carter. the annoying thing is it only came back from carter in January after a complete overhaul (everything inside changed) but at that time I wasn't shooting with stiff strings so didn't think to specify, hence it came back with a medium spring (not their fault). From initially sending the release to getting it back was five or six weeks though and I don't want such a wait again, hence why I was thinking of doing it myself.

We all have these days! but where springs are concerned I don't open things anymore unless I am in a sanitised area and I know how it all goes back. they have a nasty habit of flying all over the place!

This is the inside of an Insatiable, guessing they may not be too different. It is the spring under the trigger you need to change if it was not already obvious . I Used any springs I could find till I got one I liked, it came out of an indicator stalk of a Car . Definitely use a bag to put it in to strip it, I lost one and never did find it .

Nice one Paul, that shot was just the sort of thing I was looking for. I think the basic mechnism is pretty much the same on the thumb release models. With a bit of luck my spare insatiable springs will do the job fine.
