1. Take the wheels off and attach the string to the limbs

2. Put an arrow in it, point it in the direction of the target, pull back string with arrow attached, make sure it's still pointed in the direction of the target. Let go.

Do you have a more specific query? There are a lot of forums/threads/etc. ona variety of sites which outline the shooting processes in some detail from some very knowledgeable people.

Check out the archer's reference (www.archersreference.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk) - it's recurve specific, but much of the technique sections also apply to compound.

Reply to Murray:

1. Don't be silly, the dark arts will triumph!
2. Always a good idea, shooting other archers is bad form!

And some more:

3. Get into a routine and stick with it, doesn't matter whether it's a competition or practice

I know Marcus will disagree, but IMHO following the advice in Bernie Pellerite's book "Idiot Proof Archery" tells you everything you need to know.

If you can get a copy of his video "44 Form Flaws", that is also extremely helpful

It's very simple.

1. stand up straight
2. draw the bow in a straight line
3. put the sight in the middle of the target
4. execute the shot

Very funny

It sounded glib, I know, but that wasn't the intention. It's just that I firmly believe in not over-complicating the issue and that list, although it's very brief, does keep me focussed on the job in-hand.

There's a lot of stuff hidden behind the simplicity of the list, but I don't want to have to run through a mile-long checklist everytime I pick up my bow so the short and to-the-point list works for me.

For example, 'stand-up straight' really means check my foot position relative to the line and the target; centre my weight left-to-right and over the ball of my foot each and every shot; keep my hips in-line; keep my bow shoulder down; keep my chin up, etc etc.

Now, it's just not possible to run through a list like this every shot - I'd never get more than one away within the time limit - but if I tell myself to 'stand up straight' my subconscious takes care of the rest while I get on with the shot.

Just a little jest Adam
Actually I like the idea of a condensed checklist - short, to the point and, perhaps most important, easily remembered. Nice one....
Since I have your attention there was something I meant to ask. I know you shot both sessions at Hutton Moor and that you won - the result list only gives one score, presumably the winning one - so was that the morning or afternoon?

Morning. Only the first one counts for the competition. I was pretty disappointed with both to be honest - I've just been 1% below my best of late - but was going a bit better during the afternoon until I shot an arrow on the wrong face and finished with 572.

I seem to be making a habit of this and it's one I'm going to have to break.
