Yes they are hard plastic - this is the drawback for most users as you need a fall away type rest. But as both Wendy and myself use fallawys that isn't an issue for us.

Wrapping would not affect it.

Nope not available in the UK but currently (unless it has recently changed) Paul Morris ships them to the UK for the same rate he charges US customers.

The two biggest drawbacks of FOBS are:

1. As already mentioned - you need a fall away

2. In some cases face shape can stop you using them. If you find your vanes are digging into your face now then you may have problems with FOB's.

They are very popular in the USA and gaining popularity all the time, just visit Archery Talk and do a search on FOB.

Thanks for a comprehensive answer. I don't have a drop away rest right now, so I guess that rules them out.

I was shooting with W_M when he was trying them out last September. Mike Houghton put a tight group around one of W_M's FOB's, and the arrows simply went inside the outer ring of the thing. (W_M had a stray arrow in the gold you see ) We coined the term "A friar tuck", rather than a robin hood). So no, I don't think they are a problem in deflecting other archers arrows away.

Although personally I find them ungainly and prefer my small slim ep vanes. After all, if the arrows and the bow are in tune, and you can shoot a bare shaft without it tumbling, there is very little need for a lot of fletching. Indoors is of course different, as you can get faster taming of the arrow as it leaves the bow. But then again, as a marked distance field archer, my gear is set up for the "bunny" shot, so I'm aiming to score 20 on four faces a close as 20 feet on a walk up shot.

Outdoor target anything bigger than a 187 ffp (of a 200 Tite Flight) is a waste.
I prefer 1.5" X-Vanes on my Axis FMJ's.

They just pop off when they are hit by another arrow I have shot them in a York and they were fine and didn't cause any issues for the other 3 on the boss.

Looking at it another way though there is a 50/50 chance the arrow may be pulled inside the FOB and hence closer rather than deflected away!

This is what was termed a 'Friar Tuck' it happened quite a few times at the York.
