Suppression mounts, a new fad...???

Maybe I've been rather unobservant but I'm sure that I have seen more bows with doinker's suppression mount in the last two months than I have, well... ever.

Now I know that the idea for these is that they help dampen excess vibration (and can be used as an extender), but I was wondering if they are worth it or is this just a fad that will come and go as so many do in our sport??

Just copying the big boys I guess:

I think they were originally developed for compounders in any case.

I use one and love them.
They are a little more complex than a chuck of metal. It's a rod inside mounted in 2 bits of rubber so the rod can move around on the shot and take out vibration. The vents are there to let air out.
I like em because they are quite heavy and add weight to the riser without adding it far from the bow.
It's not the only vibration dampening product out there, but it is an excellent one.

A few silver ones have appeared at my club on compound bows. I shoot a black and silver one as an extender on my recurve.

I inherited the Doinker set archery_mum was testing and think they are excellent. However they are heavy and she prefers the lighter weight MAC Triads which gives her the same performance as the Doinkers without the shoulder issues.

I agree with Marcus, I have used one for over 2 years now, as part of my doinker long rod, and find that it puts the weight in just the right place for me as well as providing the required stabilisation.

interestingly alt services market this as damper rather than an extender. i was looking for a new, longer extender recently, and didn't fancy the fifty quid for a beiter, so just went for the hmc instead. using a helix i don't really need the extra weight by the riser!

talking of compound gadgets being used on recurves, i know someone who uses a compound site on his recurve - i am absolutely stumped as to why!

that would make sense, but this guy is shooting a helix with 26lb limbs...

About 16 years ago Erika got sick of her recurve sight breaking so bought a SureLoc Lite. All her club mates gave her a hard time because it was a compound sight and twice the price of their recurve ones.
It is still being shot today (by a compound friend of ours) and I also used it to bash nails into a wall.
Compound sights are much stronger than most recurve sights. I have always been amazed at how recurve archers will fuss so much over the weight of their sight sounding like any extra oz will snap them in half, and then they add Top weights and heavy stabilizers to their bows. Recurvers really are the ultimate in trend buyers.

Don't say that, having heard all this positive stuff about suppression dampers I'm thinking of going off and trying one out next weekend (in an attempt to come up with things my parents can get me for my birthday!!).

I've shot my recurve with my compound sight because I didn't have a recurve sight for it. I did buy a new sight for my recurve because compound and recurve sights take different threads.
