sureloc scope holder keeps working loose.

I have recently replaced my Merlin Omega sight (which I had fitted with a 10/32 sight pin holder to hold a scope) with a Sureloc Challenger.

I am finding that half way through a shoot the main hand screw that holds the scope carrier to the vertical rack keeps working loose and my arrows start to rise by 6" (annoyingly It usually takes two sevens before I realise what happens!).This never happened once with my Omega (which used an allen bolt).

Has anyone else experienced this and are there any tips to prevent it happening.

i had the same problem at first.

what i did was tighten the screws super tight and it hasnt moved once since then.

i also always make sure that there isnt much shock in the bow, as i know hoyts can be shocky, ive in effect tried to tie up any loose ends with a shock absorber of some sort. i do this, cause i got rid of an ultima, cause of the shock of the bow, it worked the scope loose, turning it, and this is no good for shoots.

i managed to end up with the setup without anything on the sight, but you can get hold of some shock absorber for a shore-loc, which is a rubber thing that goes on the extender bar.

hope that helps.

Your best bet would be to get it set up nicely and then threadlock everything down tight. Once it is set it is unlikely that you'll really need to change anything, and threadlock can be undone anyway, but it is sufficient to hold the screw in whilst you are shooting.

i have a challenger also and if you mean the knurled cylindrical bolt that u hand tighten/loosen to take off scope section than i have had no loosening whatsover, even after 6hr non stop session, and peak weight is 58lbs. i notice there is a hex 4 an allen key in the middle of it, may b relevant? good luck

Interestingly, sureloc in their instructions suggest threadlock should not be used. A bigger issue though is the screw that is working loose is the main one which holds the sight block, this wouldn't be suitable for threadlocking becuase I wish to remove the scope in transit.

Thanks for that. I hadn't spotted a hex head in the middle I thought it was only for finger tightenning. I will have another look.

Hi Guys,

Haven't been around for awhile, but I hope this helps.

Have experienced this before, and it costed me a Gold medal.

Two very easy ways to ensure the grub screw doesn't get loose is apply a generous amount of bow string wax to the threads, or simply use an allen key to tighten the grub screw. However, be careful not to over-tighten; I've seen threads (from the block) stripped.

One other thing you could do to help the situation is to replace the thin nylon washer at the base of the grub screw with a very small sprung, or 'serrated' (sorry, don't know the name) washer that helps 'grab' the top surface of the block when you tighten down.

CHEERS!

Thumbs up

If you mean the knurled thumb screw that you use to attach the scope holder to the sight block (Z-block?) then I had this problem too and I have fitted a Beiter washer (sort of 'rubbery' washer) over the thread so that it gets pinched down under the head of the knurled thumb screw when I tighten the it. Since doing that I have never had a problem with the scope holder coming loose. I got the washers from Alternative Archery.

I always tighten mine using an allen key. I get it finger tight, then twist slightly more. Always works well.
