Socx Comfort Wrap allignment

Hi all.

Just looking for some thoughts on the Socx comfort wraps. I've used them on my X10s and have just bought a new set and another scatter of wraps. I find them real handy for quickly replacing vanes on the line and in the field as the positional lines are already drawn on the wraps (I'm using straight vanes by the way, not K- or spin- or the likes). However, I've noticed that the lines are not at the same 120deg seperation on all the arrows. Some arrows are grand, some are a bit off, and some are way off. When putting them on I was as careful as I could be to put them on right, but I must have messed up but can't think where!

Does anyone have any foolproof way of installing these wraps in such a way as to position the vanes 120deg "exactly" from each other?

Many thanks.

Uh... in order for the vanes to be that accurate, the lines would have to be exactly every third of the way around the arrow, which would mean that the wrap would have to be specific to the shaft. That's one way.

The next way is to use a fletching jig.

Or say, "it's good enough" and stop worrying about it.

I don't use wraps with lines, but the following may help I hope. I install wraps on my arrows using the "mouse mat method". What you do is rule a line on a mouse mat, peel off the wrap and lay it sticky side up so that one of the long edges is lying along the line (a little tricky as the wrap tends to stick to fingers but can be done!). Then carefully position the arrow shaft so that it is alingned with the line and wrap as seen from above, and roll the shaft carefully over the wrap to attach it, while applying some pressure. If required, you can put some marks on the line to help position the wrap a precise distance down the shaft, if you like to leave a bit of a gap between end of shaft and start of wrap.

Hope my explanation is not too hard to understand, but there is a better explanation in an article on John Dudley's website anyway - sorry can't remember the address... I find this method allows me to put my wraps on very consistently though so it might help to get the lines consistently spaced.

Cheers The Meggy

The wraps are specific to the shaft, in terms of Socx anyway. What might have happened is that you do not have the right size wraps for your shafts, or you have stretched them while applying.
