I guess at the end of the day, it is hard to resist shooting a compound

By the way, is there anyway I can modify my Sure Loc Quest X so it can be used both on a compound and a recurve? The elevation part looks pretty much the same and I'm thinking the only things I must get to make it strong enough are a sure loc supreme extension, a 3rd axis mounting block, sight saver, offset bracket and a cartel scope. I hope my warranty will still be valid after I switch the components around though

Jerry, are all the trophy taker rests with the spring launcher just as good as the higher end ones? I think the price seems really reasonable and from the slow motion videos on the other thread they look good enough even for a 1400+ shooter

Ah wonderful, that just makes me feel better. There is no chance of it firing otherwise right? As long as I keep my finger off the trigger while drawing? How reliable are the mechanics in the release aid anyways? Will they last forever?

I'm being a little now with all these questions hehe but if you don't ask you don't get right?

I'd be wary about shooting a recurve sight on a compound. Looking at my sights (I shoot an ultima on both compound and recurve) the vertical screw looks much more robust and chunky than the recurve one. I expect you could do it but I seriously doubt it would be covered by a warranty. There are quite often a few sights floating around on eBay or on the Us archery forums that could be had at a reasonable price.

Edit: It is possible for a release to misfire, but it is very rare. I've put around 10000 arrows through my release and it has never misfired. What is more likely is that a d-loop will fail, although if you tie it properly it should last until you replace it. As for the insides of releases, I've heard that Carters seem to last forever, or at least until you decide to change the release. If it does fail I believe Carter will replace the insides at a reasonable price should you have a problem and they come with a decent warranty.

Sureloc make it quite clear on all their liturature that if you put one of their recurve sights on a compound your warranty will be invalid.

Alrighty, I won't take that risk with my sure loc then. I'll probably buy another sight for the compound. Any suggestions on the best value compound sight? Much appreciated.

As for my release I guess a Carter is the way to go, I'll keep an eye out

Thanks for the recommendations by the way, I do have a feeling that using a release aid might be hard for me. I don't even know how it works and all that. Pretty worried about dry firing by accident too or a premature release

Axis FMJs cost about the same as Cartel Triples in Singapore.
Your 500 X10's could well be too weak

I use pretty much the same setup and they work great. My best FITA is still with X10 500's at 27" arrow and 60lb Allegiance.

you seem yo be going for a really nice setup, so for the sight, you dont want something that may fall apart, or cause you trouble later in your compound career.

i reckomend for the sight a sure-loc challenger. half the price than the supreme, and imo, with no significant differences.

you will also need a scope. there are a bunch in the market, but id say if you have the money, invest in a super scope. brilliant lenses, and top quality. (half bodied or full, dont go full clear)

Thanks for the suggestion, I am leaning towards the Challenger after some good experiences with Sure Loc's customer service.

As I'm not too financially sound right now I might just go for a simple Cartel scope with X8 magnification? I wonder what the pros use as I find that too much magnification would make it a little harder to keep the scope still and locked onto the gold.

As for my release aid, I'm considering a simple 3 finger back tension release by Tru Ball. I wonder if the number of fingers matter at all when it comes to getting a good release while keeping a relaxed hand? So many questions

Backtension releases may not necessarily be a great idea for your first release aid, but it might suit you. There is nothing better than trying out multiple releases and seeing what works best for you - it may be a 3 finger, possibly a 4 finger, perhaps even a 2 finger release.
