Wink Shoot thru or no shoot thru?----T'is the question

Anyone got a good reason for me to change to one of the new Elite series Hoyts? Not tried a STT bow, so would be good for someone in the know to help me decide whether to buy yet another bow and not eat, or save the money for more . My Ultratec doesnt appear to need more 'lateral stiffness' nor a riser which 'creates an extremenly high level of consistancy and accuracy'. I know this cos my bow has never shot an X by itself, so I'd like some facts without the hype.

Can't say I've noticed much difference between my Pro Elite or my Ultramag. I guess a pro shooter might be able to detect a subtle difference, but not me. Loading an arrow through a shoot through riser can be a bit of a pain, particularly if you have a wrist release dangling under your hand.

I have tried a shoot through, and agree "loading" the arrow is a pain. Also, it would appear that shoot through risers are heavier, and in my humble opinion, Heavy is bad

shoot through

Hi,
I don't think it matters whether or not the riser is shoot through. I like the theory that all is in balance etc. etc. Then they put a sight on one side and destroy all their hard work. I've had several bows in my time and there is no doubt in my mind, the one that matches my shooting and physique is the one I should use. When we buy a bow we then buy arrows that match. That seems sound sense to me. Why start with bow/ arrow match? I believe the starting point is bow /archer match. To get that match right, we need to have clear ideas as to what we want from the bow. When you shoot your first bow it is almost impossible to know what is good for you. Some sort of options list could help. Is the bow lively or not? Is the bow grip above centre or at the centre? Is the weight forward or not? Is the weight in the hand too much for me or not? Does the draw make it easy to keep the body well balanced through the draw?( sudden let off can upset some archers)
Some bows seem to drag on the bow arm during the follow through; others seem almost weightless. Judge by the shooting experience not the advertising or looks.
All the best
Geoff

Geoff an DMU_AC couldnt agree more, t'is sound sensible stuff you quote....hence the quest for facts about 'why' I should bother....surely those nice people at Hoyt have a great reason and its not all about selling more units. Fluffy words in the marketing make me nervous, so I trust 1st hand experience of those parting with hard earned money.

usually the best way to do things. if you are near a customer friendly archery shop go down and see if you can have a go of some. then you can make your own mind up/ finish persuading yourself that its the next muxt have :P lol.

I have tried the ultralite and I don't think you'd notice a difference between it and a standard riser, I didn't, but as it has been pointed out, loading an arrow is a bit trickier

A few years ago I was shooting a Protec XT2000 Spiral. It was fast and accurate, however even with a side weight I was always canting to the right.
I eventually cracked it and picked up a UltraElite XT3000 and put Spirals on. It was the same speed as the Protec but held straighter and steadier than the Protec did. In fact IIRC I shot a PB at 70m with it a few days later. I even removed the side weight.
IMHO the only Hoyts worth shooting are the Elites.
Since 2001 I have owned 1 Ultratec, 4 Protecs and the UltraElite. It was by far the best of the bunch.
I almost didn't want to sell it. My Allegiance on the other hand I won't depart with for anything.
