Many compound archers use a sight in the string called a peep. You peep through it at the front sight so that aligns the string. If you shoot compound without a peep, you can align the string as a recurve archer would.

I use the same string alignment as I would with a recurve just on the right hand side of the sight ring.I don't line the string on the riser due to the shape of the sight window. As you can't put your nose on the string due to the shorter lenght of a compound I use a point on my glasses placed level with the target to get my head position correct in the verticle all the above with an under the chin anchor. Now give us the details what did you shoot, what Axle to Axle lenght was the bow did you use a release aid and what did you think of the extra power?

I was shooting AH0RSEY 's Hoyt Ultratec Xt2000. As for the power it didn't seem any greater than my recurve. I generally train at 49# on the fingers and I believe AHORSEY'S BOW is now set at about 46# - axle lentgh I have no idea - that's technical stuff to me ![]() I just noticed when I shot it, that all I did was look through the peep, straight through the scope and at the gold - without any alignment as such, and shot - with the results of a 1 arrow on the boss white 7 o clock and two grouped in the green It made me think that I should be aligning something somewhere...all fun and games.

The compound should have more power, the cams enhance and prolong the power stroke. A 46 pound compound should easily outgun a 49 pound recurve.

Because you look THROUGH the string you don't have to worry about aligning it as such: but you do have to align the peep with the scope and the scope with the target. You should really see them as a series of concentric circles. Even slight misalignment can have a profound effect on the impact point of the arrow. Adam

Think I'm gonna have to get myself one and have a proper play. One last question though - why do compound archers use scopes with magnification? Why not just a normal sight like recurve archers?

Are shoot through compound bows FITA / GNAS legal, such as the Hoyt ProElite?
