release aids and reference points

When I use the hand held version, what part of the hand makes the references with the face? At the moment, I am fitting the space between the first and second finger around the jaw bone. The space is created by the way the fingers are placed on either side of the release jaws.
I have looked a numerous photos of this and can see the back of the hand is towards the face but there is not enough detail to show an exact location.
With my usual wrist strap release, the index finger fits under the jaw close to where a recure archer would be, although it is rotated in comparison.

What release are you using? Has it got a rotating head? Do you use a D-loop?
If it has not watch out you could be twisting the D-loop if the back of your hand is on your face (palm out).
I like to anchor with a flat hand, with the joint between the 1st and 2nd knuckle(top of the hand) locked into the bend of the jaw bone - the bit just below the ear! If you try it this way you may have to play with the length of the D-loop to get a comfortable fit.
If you like it don't for get to check the hight of the peep sight - it may need adjusting!

Thanks for your reply.
The release is a Copperjohn double eagle. Middle finger trigger and no rotation on the head. I use a short D-loop half inch long. My hand is more palm down than out but it is rotated slightly so the little finger is higher than the index finger. I feel the draw length of the total system is about right for my body, perhaps a little long.Shortening the loop is out, I feel, but there is very little twist in it.

I was a little worried about string hand angle, but after having a read of Mastering Compound Bows, I am happy, basically it says there is not strictly an angle to go for, as long as your arm sits along the power line (in line with the arrow) so go for whatever hand angle is most comfortable and of course repeatable for yourself.

Thanks agin for the input. I've just about found a reference now, It's the jaw fits into the space between middle two fingers. That also puts the peep in the same position as tha forthe wrist strap release.
Cheers
