Goodbye Evolution

At this very moment my Evolution is winging its way to a new owner. I just can`t settle with it I`m staying with my Solution 2.5

Not a huge shock, I suspect that many will find this release difficult to use well.

I assume you bought the Evolution as a remedy for Target Panic? I have tried just about every form of release aid there is. Every single BT release I have tried can be "fooled" or tricked into being punched. They do work...until the wind blows. Then they are a complete pain..only solution is to deal with TP properly and not try and buy you way out of it. I find the Carter Just Cuz to be the best release aid for me. Strangly enough I have no hint of TP now. I just grew out of it by learning how to use a thumb release aid properly. Took two years of hard work though.

Actually, i didn`t buy it as a remedy for target panic. It was something new and i thought i`d like to give it a try, and for various reasons it wasn`t the release for me.
I agree, the Just Cuz is a fine release i used one for a while, and if it had been a 4 finger i`d still be using it now.
I`m perfectly happy shooting with my Solution 2.5, and now i don`t feel the need to be changing it in the near future (if at all) it suits my style of shooting.

What makes you say that Marcus?

The reason why I am asking is because I find your opinions about some products to be galringly truthful.

What are your thoughts on the Evo, good and bad?

I totally agree with Marcus on this one. IMHO This form of release is a compromise, often used to combat problems with TP. Check back a few posts on my other comments on this type of release aid.

I have never shot the Evolution, only the HHA, I found the HHA relied very heavily on the progressive use of back tension, this I found easy as I spent ages wit a BT gold perfecting back tension. However archers who never cracked the art of back tesion will struggle to make the thing work straight out of the box. It will take time, practice and patience, and it seems with the Carter, the right spring too.

Having said all, that I don't think any back tension device however it works can compete with a thumb release aid in the wind. But they are great to practice "back tension" and fine for indoor use.

There is absolutely no difference whatsoever between the techniques used to shoot a back tension release aid and to use a thumb release PROPERLY.

The only difference is if you cheat a BT release you are much more likely to miss completely and start to really screw up.

Some people therefore use a BT release to give tham a NO OPTION scenario that helps them to get away from the punch forever and if it is used for this purpose it can do only good things, you either learn to do it properly or you go back to a thumb release and punch away.

The only real reason for going back to a thumb release is for the added element of security when coming down etc. but this point is negated with the new generation of bt releases with safeties.

I really think some people are talking above their experience level. Generally using 3rd hand ideas and conjecture.

The evolution is definately the best release of its type so far ergonomically and will suit those who have the perseverence to shoot it properly and gain from it.

For some, using the evolution could be the first time they experience a truly surprise release. If that is the case, it could take more getting used to than it would first appear to need. With the surprise release the follow through is so different too. It seems that some of the early stages of the shot sequence remain the same but all of the later bits are very different. Allowing the follow through to be natural and yet repeating can take a lot of practice.
