| release aid finger positions As far as I can tell, all hand held release aids put the fingers with index one side of the jaw/calliper and the other two or three on the other side.
I wrapped some cord round some dowel to make a very simple hand held release mock up. I put one finger below the rope and three above and pulled. I put two fingers below and two above the rope and pulled again. There was a clear difference. With one finger below, the dowel tends to rotate the wrist so the one finger moves as if uncurling. With two fingers either side, the dowel was in balance and no tendency to turn the hand. I have recently managed to shoot my home made release. I managed to build it so the jaw fits through the d-loop without twisting it.When the back of my hand is resting against my face, the jaw is moving horizontally with no torque on the d-loop(or very little)
This also gives a stability to the hand. There is very little tendency for the wrist to be rotated back as there is non of the usual torque in the d-loop.
Any thoughts? Like; are there good reasons to have the index finger as the one separated from the others rather than two and two, which seems more stable.
