Arrow size/spine question

hi all

just upgraded to a bowtech tribute (50lb draw wieght shooting a 27.5 inch arrow) from my old merlin saffire 47lb draw wieght 27.5 inch arrow and wheels not cams)and it looks like i'll have to upgrade my arrows to handle the extra speed.

I had been shooting X7's 1914/658 spine 27.5 inches long with 100 grain points indoors but could not get any consistancy in group size, so i borrowed some X7 2114/510 spine 27.5 inches long with 100 grain points and got an immediate improvement.

Anyhow with this in mind i was planning to shoot my 3-04/680 spine acc's outdoor but will they be up to the task!

i was looking at buying acc's 3L-18's or 3-18's or maybe cartel x-perts any thoughts or comments would be helpfull.

Have a look at Easton Axis Full Metal Jacket arrows. A couple of us darksiders shoot them. They are a lot cheaper ACC's, I would consider the 500's

Easton dealers should have them.
I agree, the FMJ's are awesome.

I got mine from a shop Nott's, they dont stock them but can get them with a couple of days notice, they cost £85 which included a bag of spin wings and a dozen spare knock's, (I fletched them myself) the points are screw in and there is a lot of choice I went for 90 grain this gives 106 total as the inserts are 16 grain.

What is the draw length set to? If you have any excess arrow length with your bow you may be better off getting slightly shorter arrows and going for a lower spine, I use the 500 spine (only 53# and 26.5" arrows) but you may need the 400 due to your current arrow length especially if you intend to increase poundage in the future.

Indoors Just go for the thickest arrow you can get away with up to 2315 (any thicker is not currently allowed in competition)

my draw length is set at 26.5 at the moment and at 50# i will probably lift it to about 53/54#.

i think your right about shooting the tickest arrows you can get indoors, tried some 2312's last night and achieved good consistant grouping,

and i'll have a look at the FMJ,s

If your based near Dartford tunnel east london then give these boys a try

http://www.linecutterarchery.co.uk/

Get all my gear from them and they always see you right. They get all there stuff from the same dealers as the bigger shops but normally are cheaper by just a little.

You can get away with shorter arrows for sure, I can just get away with shooting some older ACC's I have that are 25.5" on my 26" draw, if you go up to 27" with 90 Grain points according to the Easton Shaft Selector Software you can use the 500 spine FMJ's up to about 55#.

I do use spin wings I think they are 1 3/4" and I must say I like them, Fletched My Own they are really easy to put on they tape in place and replacing damaged vanes is a doddle, but they need to be as spin wings are fairly high maintenance, if you have any clearance issue you will damage some, I think my bow is pretty much sorted now and I have a drop away rest so I only have to change them occasionally can do it in front of the telly without fear of getting glue on the furniture. Mine are Blue because they look cool on the arrow but they are really difficult to spot on the target .

If I was starting fresh I might have a play with X-Wings or X-Vanes, Not Sure About X-Wings but X-Vanes Glue in place so changing them is more work but they are supposed to be far more durable in the first place, probably will not do it on tease arrows cant face stripping them to start again. Aardvark stock the X-Vanes if it is something you are interested in.
