noisy sight.....

i have a sureloc supreme, and am not very impressed, £160 on a sight and it rattles more than just about any other i've seen.
it would seem to be the round bar at the front that guides the sight block up and down.
anyone else had the same problems and what did you do to fix it, just looking for ideas before i go taking it apart.
thanks.

Try wrapping a dozen or so elastic bands in a ball around the arm, this will reduce rattles.A bit low tech,or buy some of the stick on or wrap around sound dampers avalable.

Gently grip the attachment for the scope and see if you can move it up and down without the sight moving. If you can, have a look at the vertical adjustment knobs at the top and bottom of the sight... if they're moving a little bit, that's why it rattles.

To correct: On the side of the vertical adjustment bits is an allen-head screw. Undo it a little bit, tighten the knob up, retighten the screw, the noise should be gone. Be careful with this - if you undo it too far, the spring and ball bearing that make the clicky noise will escape, and they're a nightmare to find.

I had a few rattles on my Toxonics.... judicious placement of grease and PTFE cured all

P.S Just be careful when taking apart though.

The Supreme is a solid enough design and shouldn't rattle at all from new.

I'd suggest you follow Shirt's instuctions regarding the adjustment knobs and if that doesn't resolve the problem, take the sight back for an exchange.

Rubber bands and silicone grease are all well and good on an old sight you may have loaned from Tom, Dick or Harry down the club but to have to do this on a brand new Sure Loc sight is just not right.

One last thought, In their instruction booklet Sure Loc suggest to lightly tighten the knerled knob that holds the 3rd axis block in place with pliers. The block can work loose if you only tighten it with fingers but be warned 'lightly' means just that, you should still be able to undo the knob by hand.
