Ultratec weight adjustment

Could anybody please help me. I have an '04 Ultratec 60/70# At the moment it's wound up tight at 70#. I don't have a bow press & I'm a little worried about undoing the limb bolts to reduce the weight down to 60# (a little less would be nice ) & don't fancy the idea of over loosening them & getting a facefull of bow!
Does anyone know roughly how many pounds you reduce with every turn out of the limb bolts?

I think that if ur not sure then either let someone else do it that knows more about this, I am very inquisitive and do things on my own by messing around but
thats an area I steer well clear of in archery due to high tension.

Seb.

Ps dont know much about compounds just read about,

Buy/borrow some bow scales.
Gradually unwind each limb bolt a couple of turns each (dont forget to slacken the side bolts first).
Weight the bow each time until you get to 60lbs (if the bow is 60-70 rated you should have enough limb bolt to play with).
I would be very wary about going LESS than the stated range as their might not be enough thread in the riser to hold things together.

Don't Hoyt advise a maximum of 4 turns out of the limb bolts for safety?

Robtattoo said that he was tight at 70lbs.
As the bow is rated 60-70lbs I should imagine that it would be safe to wind down to 60lbs and still be within safe margins.
So long as he checks the draw weight between wind off's he should be ok.
Two and a half pounds of weight per bolt rotation seems to stick in my mind from past experience.
MARTIN bows say that you should take a few turns off the poundage before pressing so if the Martin is on minimum weight it would seem that their bolts are plenty long enough.
I should think Hoyt is the same but as with all things compound caution is the order of the day.
If he stays at 60lbs and not try to go lower all should be ok.

Nightimer
ps I shoot Hoyt and Martin and never had a problem.

As Adam says, about four turns.......wind the limb bolts all the way in, mark them, then take four full turns out, that should get you pretty close to 60lbs

if you wind the bolts all the way in the tiller will probably be out . so first get the tiller right at its peak weight then mark the bolt in the top center position now you can start to lower the weight down, when you reach 60lbs on the scale recheck you tiller again as it may have moved out, don't forget to retigthen the lock screw with out crushing the plastic washers if in doubt get it in to a shop

Also:- what you do to the top, do to the bottom. Keep even rotations of the allen bolts. Then check the tiller.

Absolutly, there is so much energy stored in the limbs it's not worth the risk or to others if the thread fails on the line if it's been wound out too far.
