What release are you using?
The release has no bearing on this. I have a piece on my other bow cut from the same length and thats done over 500 shots (same poundage 50#)

wonder if using BCY release rope as a D-loop material with it's spectra content would make for a more durable job than the polyester D-loop stuff

Do BCY do two types then? and how would you know what you`ve got when they dont advertise the material content?
But anyway this was sold as d-loop material, so you would expect it to be up to the job, wouldnt you agree?

BCY makes two types. Release rope comes in white, so you should have right rope because it was blue.

Release Rope
No. 23 firm braided white. Spectra cover,
highly durable.
Approx. diameter: 2.0 mm (.075”)
Spool size: 39” package, 100 ft. spool

‘D’ Loop Rope
No. 24 stiff braided polyester.
Full range of colors available.
Approx. diameter: 2.0 mm (.075”)
Spool size: 39” package, 100 ft. spool

D-loop failure! observation

Looking at the pieces of my broken d-loop i noticed the broken ends were a bit black and they felt hard. Looking through a magnifying glass i could see that the material was actually melted. There must have been a large amount of energy generated by internal friction at the split second before breaking.

Is it possible to break one of the shorter pieces to see if the same thing happens?
Would your drawboard work for that?(without the bow obviously)
