My other half got really fed up with her recurve, bought a 2nd hand Hoyt Xtec and shot it for a week and then preceeded to shoot an outdoors recurve PB. I occasionally have a dabble with it and whenever i go back to my recurve i always seem to shoot better, remember the old saying of a change is as good as a break.

Thats why I have a 45# mongolian style bow. Its easier to setup but allows me to keep the muscles warm and ready for when I break out the recurve.

because shooting compound teaches you to aim properly and to use the correct back muscles (without having to fight against a draw weight that stacks-up as you near your anchor point). Both of these things improve recurve technique/scores.

when my wife went back to recurve after shooting compound for a few years her recurve scores went through the roof. This was because her expectations changed. Compound taught her how to shoot 10's. Very important aspect.

Before you buy your bow, get advice from a compound coach. When people buy compounds for the first time without advice from a coach or experienced compound shooter, they usually end up with a bow which has too long a draw length and is too heavy. Then they try to adapt themselves to the bow. Be careful of that.
Once you have your bow get a good quality release aid and a good coach to teach you how to shoot it correctly.
If you start out right; with the right guidance, you'll love it.

Before you do anything decide whether you want to shoot limited or unlimited.Be warned there is not a large knowledge base out there if you decide to shoot limited. But a fatter string and lower holding weight make it a lot more comfortable than recurve. You keep your button and flipper rest that you are familiar with but loose technique will be slightly different.

if you can get your hands on a low poundage hoyt ultratec try one of those, something about 30 40# . lightweight in the hand and a good compound to shoot.,not to long and not to short, can be shot well with fingers, traditional without sights (bowhunter) or if you go down the dark path, with a release aid and all the scaffold on the front.
