| New Junior Compound Bow - any ideas? Looking to buy my son a new compound bow before the start of the outdoor season. He currently shoots a Martin Tiger #22 at 21" draw. Been a great bow for him for a couple of years but its begining to look a bit small and due to the scalled down design having problems with lack of space between shelf and handle. Unable to fit a TT or drop away rest as it hangs over the handle and hits his hand/wrist. Just looked at BS and saw the Mathews Ignition - looked good for the price but a bit miffed when you find out its an extra £50 for the colour shown in the picture only the camo is £225.... Also relies on modules so price goes up with his drawlength Any other ideas - maybe the Rintec or Trykon Junior when its released both have a good draw length adjustment. |

| My daughter has just turned 9, and we have been upgrading her kit. I would agree with the earlier advice. Have a word with Ben and Chis at Merlin. We are lucky enough to be able to pop over to the shop in 40 Min's from home, but they have no problem with a long chat over the phone. I realise I am biased, having known Chris for around 30 years, BUT, he has experience of sorting out little Ben, well he was little then, sorry Ben, LOL, and his own grandchildren. The difference between box shifting, and making the stuff perhaps. I know Chris made a fuss over my daughter at her first visit to the shop for her first set of decent arrows. It may be worth asking if they have a secondhand trade in bow. I got a vision 2000 from Ben, rather than new last year, but it was altered and set up for me as if I was buying new.

| My son upgraded from a genesis pro to a browning micro midas 4 at christmas had it set up at C.B.A.and its been fantastic so far all his P.B.s have gone up and it has plenty of adjustment on it 20-30 lbs draw weight and up to 27" draw length add in his quick tune 800 launcher, carter release aid and toxonic sight and scope and he is regularly beating a girl compound shooter in the club who is five years older than him and a couple of years more experienced (he,s 11) all from a bow that only cost £180

| The Trykon junior at £249.00 looks a good buy, especially with the 8" DL adjustment and the 30lb would give you a good range of poundage. I see it is in custom builts catalogue but I guess from your post they arn't available yet. Like english_archer, my 11 yr old son uses a Browning Micro Midas and shoots very well with it. There is a good range of adjustment and they can be picked up from the USA for around £120 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Thanks for all your advice. Went to Quicks in Sapcote on Saturday and got him a Hoyt Rintec. Great looking bow just like an Ultratec I once owned but smaller. Interesting that the bow was rated as 20-30lbs but the lowest it went down to is 24lbs at 8ish bolt turns. Got a great price on the 2006 colour option (£220) and it came with a 75 anniversary cap, so it made his day. His Martin is on eBay if anyone fancies a good cheap compound for a child. |
