sambow has taken part in the Archery Interchange Ironman Challenge shoot
WL Ranking: 2008 Compound Div 3, 2nd place
SL Ranking:

When I shoot recurve I use a winstar, but having used both I would choose an eclipse if I could turn back time. I find the feel of the eclipse is much niicer, the grip is well suited to smaller hands and I prefer the limb adjustment. One more thing I have found the paint finish on my winstar to be lacking in durability, despite looking after it and storing in an aurora riser cover there are paint chips in numerous places. Ok this may not effect the shooting, but it will effect the resale value when I decide to trade up.

Owning an eclipse myself.. i would most certainly vouch for it.. the Winstar II is much heavier than the eclipse.. my club has several winstar IIs.. and i have tried using them as i waited for the purchase of my own eclipse in the past.. and looking back.. other than the weight difference.. the feeling of shooting the eclipse is far much better than the winstar II.. like the others have mentioned the difference in the grip.. Hoyt's Ergo Grip on the eclipse gives a much comfortable grip on the Eclipse.. and with the TEC bridge on the Eclipse.. there is much less torque when shooting giving a stable feeling after each shot.. would most certainly vouch for the eclipse..

ahha.. Get Serious.. Get Hoyt

When I was looking for a bow I tried out a few risers including the eclipse, matrix and winstar but unfortunately for my credit card the shop also had an INNO riser, which I just absolutely fell for the moment I clapped my eyes on it. If you can afford it, or like me are silly enough to put it on plastic then go for what ever kit feels / shots the best for you, there's no shame in buying top end equipment if you want to. Be careful with limbs though, there's no point spending a huge amount if you're going to be changing them after a month due to wanting something heavier.

I've never regretted buying my riser, I started off with a great riser and a nice sight - both of which should last for many years. I also went with ally arrows, the cheapest international fitting limbs, and a £10 second-hand stabiliser, all of which have slowly been replaced as I've progressed.

Have fun

Paul.
