Spinwings left or right

Can anyone tell me a foolproof or should that be idiot proof way to tell if spinwings and kurlyvanes and the like are for a left handed archer or a right handed one. I have been shooting aces that I bought second-hand with spinwings on them. They were starting to look a bit raddled so I got new righthanded kurly vanes to replace them.
In comparison the new ones looked opposite handed to the ones on the shaft.
Have I been shooting left handed vanes all this time?.
Well I went ahead and replaced the vanes and when I next shot at our field my scores improved enormously.
Any thoughts?.

left handed ones will be curved like a 'C' when viewed from the back

right handed ones go the other way

Confirmation

Thanks DMU and Murray.
That confirms that I have been using lefty's instead of righty's.
So does that explain the sudden improvement in my scores?.
Any input is welcome.

Could do, if the lefties were making contact with the rest or button on the way out of the bow.

There was no clearance problems with the arrows. I was thinking more along the lines of rotation. If a right hander gives anticlockwise rotation to an arrow would this not cause disruption in airflow over the left handed vanes that are designed to rotate clockwise.

The archer doesn't cause the arrows to rotate, the vanes do... therefore no, that wouldn't cause the issues. It would be more likely to be clearance issues,

OK Murray. Can you explain then why we have right and left fletchings cos I thought it was due to different directions of rotation for right handed and left handed archers?.
As you can see I need all the help I can get Murray.

My coach and I were talking about this and whether lefties would be able to shoot Quikspins (righthand only). He was saying that as the arrows rotate naturally from finger release if you try to cause them to spin the "wrong" way with fletchings you end up with arrows who's momentum is going one way and the vanes are trying to make them go the other. This in turn causes fishtailing and not very good flight.

jthan,

Were your "lefty" wings on straight or offset, and did you put the "righty" wings the same way? - John
