| They don't do the same thing. Spin Wings react like normal vanes, they are just lighter. (Having testing grouping at long range with Spin WIngs vs FFPs the group sizes stay the same. A 1320+ recurve archer I know has done the same test and found the same) Quickspins however will spin faster than Spin Wings, however this is not always a good thing. You will see a vast speed decrease after 70m+ and this will leave to a decrease in downrange velocity, something your certainly want to avoid (in fact the opposite is preferred) I use the Quickspins indoors cause they look cool, but they have not given me extra points.

| Quick spins definately straighten up the arrow very quickly, it depends whether you want to lose a couple of colours at 70 m. Personally speaking . They are Brilliant!!! ![]() |

| Hi Pete, I would not bother with either. I assume you are shooting recurve with these. Vanes have no influence over form! You make the points, not the vanes. The Quickspin will induce quite a bit of drag and is very stiff and heavy, the small ones are OK and seem quite tough, but expensive. A bit of a gimmick really. They look nice and have the X factor. If you are shooting ACC's that are quite heavy you need all the speed you can get. I would avoid Quick spins. If you must, buy some white or black spin wings. ( the lower drag ones) The spin wing is very low profile and very helpfull if you have clearence problems. They are very light too, but they are very fragile and don't like shoot through's or being burried in the grass. I like them as they are easy to fit and very consistant, ( if fitted properly) but get fed up with replacing them as they crease when hit by other arrows. I use flex fletch or Easton vanes now, or something like the same. To get an arrow to spin quickly you trade off a lot of energy, the loss of down range speed again can lose you points at the longer distances. Especially on slow recurves. To be very honest a lot of people get hung up on what fletch/vane is best. I doubt very much you will notice any difference outdoors, whatever vane you choose, unless you use a vane that is too big and induce too much drag. This will be evident by poor groups at the longer Fita distance shoots. Up to 40-50 m on a nice day you could shoot anything. In short, I would buy the toughest smallest cheapest vane that holds it's profile well. Vane choice has little difference on how well you shoot, just don't go too big outdoors. Small is best. | Pete - I quizzed Neil (Aardvark archery) about getting quick vanes or spin vanes to improve my grouping etc. He gave me one of his looks and said he thought I'd be best sticking to the plasti-fletch vanes I was using. He had tried them himself and had not noticed any difference!

| Looking at the above there seems to be a slight misconception. Spinning an arrow does not itself reduce arrow speed ( The energy to spin an arrow doesn't come from its linear kinetic energy). What loses arrow speed is where you offset the vane to the shaft which generates 'slow the arrrow down' drag. One of the advantages of the curved vane is that you can generate arrow spin without needing a fletching offset.

Also Spin Wings have been shown to straighten out and thus the claimed spin does not exist. Hense why good shooters don't see any difference with them. Quote:

| Vainity Surely you're all missing the point here ![]() The purpose of vanes is to allow you to spot which arrows are yours, either through a scope, or standing at the target. As has been pointed out, they all do much the same job in flight. You need fluorescent orange K-vanes for most outdoor shooting the the UK. |

| Thanks all for your replies- I'll probably just hit what I've got with a hairdrier (see other thread). I thought Quikspins created a vacuum to generate spin rather than being angled, or is that yet something else? Pete | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
