Question New Recurve Sight

Dear All,

I realy need to change my Petron Chrome sight , It is the only real thing that bugs me about my current setup. I mean it is ment to cost £95 at Archery World but I have had nothing but fustration with it .

I am loolking to spend around £80-90 on a new one. Anyone got a few ideas about the best value. Someone mentioned to me about the Shibuya Dual Click Sight - Alumnium at £79.

What do you think?

Regards

Paul

The shibuya is a fine sight not heard anyone say otherwise BUT my weapon of choice is the "arten olympic" I love the way all the weight is kept close to the riser where it is least noticed

Me too ! mines called a D1 i think but its the same "quality" If you can get to hold an SF professional I'm betting its REALLY similar to the shib. ultima carbon as in 'designed by SF using a piece of tracing paper and a s**buya ...' I haven't see one in the flesh so im afraid I'm going to keep saving until I can afford a shib ultima carbon. I would worry about saving £20 to £30 by buying anything else if it meant I'd be back buying a new sight in years time when my "clone" fell to pieces on me.

Having said all that I have recently overhauled my petron and its a lot better than it used to be. It's pretty easy to take apart and once cleaned up and lubed with vaseline its a *LOT* better . Jo had one that was really rattly and shakey, mine just has the design compromise of the year so the windage is never going to work as it could.

I would love to get a new sight but , at the end of the day, the major limiting factor in my current setup is me and not enough practice.

I have used a Shibuya for years, pre-dual click in fact, and can recomend it. Very simple and very well made.

I have to say that I dont like the Arten Olympic, as I have see ones where the sight can be wobbled up & down, even though everything is locked down. This was a few years ago and it may be better now, but still....

I would not spend the extra for a carbon extension, not sure it makes any difference, unless you find the bow too heavy otherwise.

A member of our club has an old olympic and after every 20 or so shots she has to readjust the extesion bar, mine is just coming up to a year old an shows no sign of any wobble or any other problems its solid as a rock and add in the interchangable sight appurtures I think its a very underated sight I had a third hand arten europa before that and rated that sight aswell

i think the problem with the petron is it seems a bit variable in build quality - i have one and its been a solid performer - didnt like the REALLY wet shoot on may bank holiday monday and needed a strip down and lube after that though

i have made a couple of tiny little tweaks to stop unnecessary rattles but apart from that its as stock

i seem to remember when i asked about them before i bought it was the same story - if you get a good one theyre good but if you get a rough one youve bought a right dog

having said all that it i was buying now id probably go for either the new cheaper SF sight or (for a little more than your budget) a spigarelli carbon

As the unofficial spokesman of the North East SF Pro Supporters Association I'm bound to say......

The SA Pro is hard to beat for the money. I've used mine in all weathers without hitch. It's light, well made, reliable and it holds a sight pin in the right place. What more do you want.

The standard SF sight looks OK too, at about £40 less than the Pro.

As usual, TBYB.
