have you red simon needhams book the art of repetition there is a very good section on string making. i make all my own strings. bit of a pain at first working out how many twists suits your set up but well woth it in the end, so long as you have confidence in your knot. iv tried 14,16,&18 strands but im back to an 18 now slower but not as twichy and realy quiet this is on a 40lb draw weight. lower strand numbers can work as well on lower draw weight bows. i use fast flight material, my string hasnt been of the limbs for 5 months and the brace hieght has never altered in thousands of arrows. after a shoot with simon iv moved onto beiter knocks and knocking point (a vast improvement for me) i think the trick is getting the right amount of twists. iv tried between 15 & 50 the later being a mistake i now have 25 and my helix is as sweet as a nut. hope this helps

Cool

Stu 369 makes my strings and has done for a while.
Consistency is the name of the game I use a TS1 string which is lovely the material which was meant for compounds but I have had know problem on my recurve.
Unfortunatly it is getting harder to get hold off, so I will be trying some of stu's 8125 strings in the near future.
Materials do vary but the speed difference once you are using fast flight or above is not a massive amount, I find it is more about bow feel, consistency and string life some people like a waxed string some don't, try a few different materials and when you find one you like stick with it.

I've used store bought strings until about a year ago when I decided to make my own string. The first one was a disaster (I think there were some twists under the center serving, so all the arrows would fly waaaay left), but the second one I made has served me well for a year.

I personally use an 18 strand Angel Majesty string with Majesty serving on both the end loops and the center. It gives a very smooth shot, no creep and is surprisingly quiet. However, I've been thinking about making some more, but hearing about Stu I may just have to contact him and get some made by him (it took me about 3 hours to make each of my current strings).

Smile string

I have just recently leart how to make my own strings and have found it greatly rewarding and they work great .Ialso made my own jig for this so it can be done. If you make a mistake you can always start again good luck

I make Flemish Twist or Laid In strings for both my old recurves and my longbow.

I find there is not much more rewarding once you have shot your own string that you have made of course.

I have made strings for recurve archers and for longbow archers. I like the two tone strings especially my laid in flemish black and white string. I use dacron which nowadays isn't the choice of some but it works for me once it has stretched!!
