looking at buying a new string.

I have a 25" Matrix with Med 36lbs Crx limbs, 28.5" draw.

1. what should I be looking for?

2. what difference do the number of strands make?

3. types of material?

thank you

ps I shoot nav fmj's out door and X7's indoor if that makes any differance

You don't have a string jig?

hell no!
I have Considered getting one and learning the trade on several occaisions- but when the cost of a high quality custom string is less than half that of One decent arrow..I'm quite prepared to have one made properly!

And the thought of what could happen if I screw it up.....well ..um...

Ok- maybe I'll now ask for details of the best book to learn from, I've no probs re-serving them etc - just reckon it's pretty cost effective to have a pro produce something that quite honestly - my personal (and others) safety depends on!

I made a string and cable set for my old compound. The first couple of shots were scary, but I had made it properly, so it was ok. It was yellow/fluro yellow twist

I used to make my own recurve strings (I've always been pretty good at handicrafts and stuff like that and have nimble paws which helps) but get my compound string and cables from Greg Hill- see: Greg's String Specials

For compounds he also installs the strings too, which really helps those of us without room/cash for a bow-press, especially as he uses an X-press which can take the parallel-limbed bows safely too.

It always surprises me that folks will spend a fortune on bow/arrows/gizmos and not get a decent string. When you look at the time and effort that goes into making a decent stable string, no wonder it's an area where manufacturers compromise, OEM strings CAN be OK (eg Bowtech) but often better replaced ASAP. At least IMO anyhow

Besides, a custom string set can look really good too- and I enjoy the aesthetics of a nice-looking bow/kit set-up.

Finally, as "any fule nows" of course, PINK STRINGS SHOOT BETTER!
