Exclamation Arrows (Again!!)

Hi all,

I know this is a question that i asked a great deal throught the archery society but I am quite new to the sport and although I've searched th forums just needs some things clarifying.

I am going to purchase a new set of ACCs and refletch the current ones I have, now I have never fletched arrows before but would like to be able to so am going to give it a try.

Firstly does anyone have any tips or instructions on the best way to fletch arrows?

I know I will need a flecthing jig and the arrow components, but what other tools will i need and whats the best type of glue to use?

What are the best types of Fletch to use, are spinwings or kurly vanes any good or should i stick with the basic AAE fletches?

Any advice and help would be gratefully appreciated!

Cheers

Maverick Petey

Hi Maverick

Your right this question has been done to death and like most things it is personal preference.

My advice (for what’s it worth) stay away from the spinning, kurly vanes, quick spin etc. and stick with the good plastic normal parabolic or shield shaped ones. Fletching is easy and just use any fletching glue.

The type of vane you use is probably at the bottom of the list of things to get right. When you buy your arrows, if you’re getting them from a good dealer (and there are a few), give them a ring and ask for their advice.

If your visiting in person, ask then how to fletch, it takes two minutes to explain.

The Easton tuning guide may help http://home.att.net/~sajackson/tuning_guide.pdf

I recently had the same decisions to make and the wish to fletch my own.

I went with kurly vanes as it meant I didn't have to buy a fletching jig as I just had to stick them against the lines on my wraps.

Oh and cos they are pink of course.

Go for the ones that you like the look of as different shapes and colours wont affect your arrow flight that much and ask the dealer who you are buying the acc from

depending on the poundage youre shooting and the distances you want to reach the SIZE of the vanes might have an impact though

I would suggest you fletch 2 or 3 arrows with different size fletches & try them and see which ones you prefer & get the better flight.

cheers Rob
I only shoot one size indoors and out and forgot that some people do buy different fletch sizes
I am currently shooting with the AAE max shield cut 2" long but will not change when indoors just come off the k flonite curly fletches due to the shield cuts looking really good and strangely i have had to move my sight up on 60yds
as a rule of thumb
long distances short fletches
short distances long fletches(I tried a change once to long indoors but my grouping didnt get better and its a pain to change indoor then again outdoor)
